Concur on this - thanks Kazza0 -
This may only be of interest to anyone who has still got a 6 or 7 year old Yorks Regsave (the 3.75% gross variety) and who is due to receive interest on the 1st of May. I had a letter from them today saying that I had exceeded the max £20k limit. My spreadsheet told me that my balance had been £20k since the first of March and I was due to withdraw £860 on Saturday (30/04/16) in order that I could continue to sponsor it for another 12 months. A check online revealed that interest had been paid on the 24th of April rather than the first of May which has been payday for the last 6 years and indeed I was in breach of the T & Cs. A trip to the branch revealed all, due to the forthcoming Bank Holiday it had been decided to pay the interest early. The sum paid was about £50 less than last year so I asked when the interest rate dropped. They said it hadn't, it is only the conditional bonus (3.5%) which had been paid early and the basic rate (0.25%) will be paid as normal. They said that the letters had been computer generated and as long as I withdraw on Saturday then I am safe for a further 12 months.
If anyone else is in the same position as myself then you can rest easy.0 -

After two days attempting to get through on the phone, waiting for over an hour, I've given up. I had almost begun to think that Santander had climbed off the bottom of the customer satisfaction heap, but not any more.
Oh dear, that doesn't bode well - I'm currently half an hour into listening to their hold music trying to open the same account!0 -
Yes amazing..just opened the new Notts Sports 4% INSTANTLY and appointment to see someone at Santander about their Reg.Svr. is May 10th.0

You were lucky, my local branch was booked solid for appointments until next week, so I had to go to one further away, even then I get the sense I was lucky to get it opened by the end of the month.
Still, all sorted now!0 -

They certainly don't make it easy. Having said that the branch method is pretty painless once you get an appt.
Seems to me they are using the new a/c as a way of doing a physical identity check on a proportion of their customers - a box ticking exercise maybe?0 -
I called in to Eastwood and they opened it as I waited, really efficient.0

Oh yes, very easy once in the branch, took all of 10 minutes to fully open and fund. No KYC checks for me as I only opened their other regular saver 6 months back, and their policy (so I am told) is to do 'refresh' identity checks every 2 years.0 -

The necessity for an ID check every 2 years is absurd imo. I feel that the real reason to get anyone into a branch is to chat about one's financial requirements and all insurances in particular. It is about selling and not customer care. The 'face to face' requirement is really unjustifiable. All BS may be looking to this appointment system but it is for their benefit and not necessarily for a member.0
