Took me 33 minutes but by luck the phone's battery was fully charged! Just why they don't allow you to open online I don't know. Also asked a rather strange question did I pay tax abroad as well as UK.

I've been asked that for all my recent account applications/renewals, both on the phone and in online applications. Standard question.

Just opened this account took 28mins for the call to be answered and 33 mins for the application to be completed.

SO set up for Monday which is pay day, and I have a maturing regular saver finishing end of the month, so works out well.

    :-)

This is basically down to a law (The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act) invented by the American government, which they've attempted to impose on the whole world.

    See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Account_Tax_Compliance_Act#International_implementation for more details.

I phoned a couple of days ago, hung on for five minutes, and then it took around twenty minutes.

The call centre operator told me the account was set up and to go on line to make my first deposit from my Santander account and to set up my standing order.

I did this immediately I finished the call - no problems.

None here - they originally said they would contact with options 14 days before maturity so I expect an envelope to hit the doorstep before the weekend.

Emailed Chorley and here's their response.

Thank you for your recent e-mail. We will write out to you regarding your Sunshine Saver before Maturity enclosing instructions.

Just opened the Santander regular saver - the advisor set up the standing order while I was online.

    Took 16mins 55secs. I'm happy with that.

Right then. The letter has arrived and there's nowt special contained therein. It simply states that the Sunshine Saver is about to mature and when it does the funds from it, including any accrued interest will transfer into an easy access Chorleian account; account number will remain the same.

The letter then goes on to detail that you can choose any of their current offerings etc etc. But there is no special offer to take advantage of.

So, my advice would be to leave a £1 or so in the Chorleian account; thereby possibly giving you a foothold if they offer anything in the future that might exclude non-locals.

There is a 2% regular saver on offer with Chorleian. I guess that's not too bad these days!

    Got my letter too.

Leaving £1 or so in isn't a bad idea, though I usually prefer to close savings accounts once they've served their purpose, otherwise my spreadsheet would run to dozens of pages:o

I was hoping there would be an option for a direct bank transfer, but a cheque will be novelty:rotfl:
