The Penrith adviser told me the maximum amount allowed per month was £200. I specifically queried this with her and she said that that was the information she had in front of her on the product leaflet.
I have received my pack this morning and can confirm the maximum is £200 per month.0 -

Agreed with your view that employees should not get into any trouble but they can always say NO. I think that Branches and agencies will have targets and so it may just suit them to go ahead.
Closing an account should not be a problem and KRBS are updating their internet banking site which may simplify things.
Just to add some clarity, I can confirm that in 2012 I managed to apply by post. However, when it matured in 2013 I rang up again but they said the guidance had changed and it was restricted to branch only.0 -

Likewise.
Anyone else notice the typo before signing the declaration that you agree to the T&Cs for the '2014 Christmas Saver'?:grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member

I've got the pack from Penrith. Two questions:
On the small piece of paper stapled to the form do I fill in my name and DOB on the third line and sign the fourth line and leave everything else blank? The account is just in my name.
Do I write the cheque to myself or to Penrith Building Society?0 -

Please?
Yes, just fill in your name, DOB and signature. They'll add your customer number.
You can do either, but writing a cheque to yourself was advised over the phone when I enquired in the past.:grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member

Is anyone else having problems opening a HSBC Regular Saver account?
I can't do this on the web, so called them to apply by telephone and there is a "problem with their system"...0 -
The Penrith Building Society Christmas Regular Saver is available from today (01/12/2014).
Though, it isn't (as yet, at the time of writing this post) up on their website, it is available. If you call them they will send out an application form for you.
It pays 4.00% and matures on 30 November 2015. You can pay in between £25 - £200 per calendar month.

Thanks for this Kazza.
I rang yesterday and spoke to a very pleasant person who said she would post the application form (with a warning of limited availability of this account).
The application pack arrived in the post this morning and has been posted to them, so fingers crossed.
I was quite amused by the "identification requirements" though. Copies of passport etc etc need to have been certified within the last three months...but then goes on to say that good quality photocopies of passports and photocard driving licences will be accepted.
One section of the literature does say that the interest rate is variable although this is not stated in the other bits of paper.0 -

Yes Mud....couldn't even open an account, tried twice, think it's an age thing. See also Special Savers comments .0 -

They use the photocopies to
"electronically verify the issuance of these documents through a credit reference agency."0 -
I have been having KR BS regular saver for two consecutive years. I will be closing mine soon and then open a new one.
I could confirm from what I have been told in a few occasion that minimum payment is £25.Special_Saver2 wrote: »Hi Folks,
- Kent Reliance entry in post 4 updated to state monthly deposit is "£25-£500 (minimum monthly payment not specified in the terms and conditions but lightbulb2760 has written in post 2917 that he has been told it is £25)"
For the Kent Reliance account, I would agree that the terms and conditions show a monthly deposit must be made but there is no mention of how much this should be. They probably intended it to be £25 but did not actually stipulate this in the terms and conditions. I do not think it is worth spending any more time or effort debating this. If you cannot spare an extra £24 per month, you could deposit £25 per month and withdraw £25 per month penalty-free!
Regarding opening the Kent Reliance account by post, arsenalboy described doing this in post 1755 but did not say which branch. I do not try opening branch only accounts by post partly because I do not want to get any employee into trouble, and partly because I would be worried about having problems closing the account without visiting the branch (although I am aware others report doing this without problems).
I will do another update next weekend.
