I think the Santander first-home saver allowed a larger initial deposit. (In fact, wasn't there a loophole that you could pay in a large lump sum any time, only forgoing interest for that month as the penalty ?) Anyway, academic now.0

Cue bader09's nostalgic wanderings
The very sadly missed Monmouthshire Flexible Saver Issue 1, long since withdrawn, paid 4% (including 2% bonus) on flexible monthly contributions of up to £1k - but allowed you to 'add to your savings at any time' so most canny MSE folk who had cash available, whacked in £12k on opening or shortly thereafter
I've kept mine open with a small balance. When I run out of current accounts  2% might not be the worst around.0 -
TWO percent.
Salivating now, me.0 -
My bad. The accounts I was looking at DO have opening balance limits. They are just buried in the T's & C's. Oh well. :embarasse:embarasse:mad:0

Hey, I just joined this thread and have a couple of amendments and additions to suggest:
1. Update: The Furness BS Lifestyle Saver (no time limit/maturity date) is now 2.75% AER (down from 3%)
2. Suggestion: The Cheshire BS Platinum Monthly Saver (Issue 7) matures on 30/04/14 so should really be in the 'Matures in less than 12 months' category. This still pays 4% gross but the AER is now 3.75% as the account matures in under a year. Presumably the identical Derbyshire account should move category too?
3. New account: The Cheshire Regular Saver (Issue 6) pays 2.5% AER (variable) in the 'no time limit/maturity date' category. £10-£500 per month, interest is paid 31st Dec. Can be opened in branch or by post.
4. New account: The Progressive BS Regular eSaver pays 2.75% AER (variable) in the 'no time limit/maturity date' category. £10-£250 per month, 1 withdrawal per calendar year (with 7 days notice). Max balance £1M.
Thanks for a really useful reference thread!0 -

Just a reminder for anyone that opened a Diamond Jubilee Saver that it matures on the 30th of June. Do nowt and it reverts to a branch instant paying another mouth watering 0.16% net.
I had a postal reminder from them a few weeks ago and a 'phone call a few days ago informing me that they have/had a 2 year bond on offer paying 2.2% gross (which could be closed at any time).0 -
The Cheshire & Derbyshire BS Platinum Monthly Savers (Issue 7) have now been superseded by Issue 8.
Issue 8 pays 3% AER (variable) for the fixed term ending 31/07/14. £100-£500 per month, 1 withdrawal and 1 missed monthly deposit are permitted, otherwise a rate of 1% AER will apply.0
