Cannot believe what I was told on the phone yesterday by Skipton!
They rang because my 5% regular saver is maturing in a couple of weeks time. The lady asked what I would be doing with the matured funds. I stated it would be recycled into regular savers elsewhere.
At that point she asked me to consider transferring it into their instant access account.
She then went on to say that with a regular saver you only get half the advertised rate and that their instant access rate could be higher.
I went through the maths with her i.e.,
month 1 1/12 with regular saver means 11/12 on deposit
month 2 2/12 with regular saver means 10/12 on deposit
etc etc
she said no,no, it doesn't work like that???!!!!!
Either Skipton staff don't understand the basics or they are deliberately trying to mislead customers.
Either way they will disadvatage savers who are not savvy enough to think for themselves.0 -
I wasn't that impressed with the Skipton staff, the last time I was there. It's a shame really, as they were really lovely when I was opening the account with them.0

I got my account maturing letting from the Saffron BS today for the 4% RS. They are allowing a new RS to be opened, also at 4%. It seems fairly straightforward, just a form to fill in and a box to tick to say that you want to continue. They take £200 from the old RS blance to start funding the new one. The rest of the balance can be transfered to one of their saver accounts or as I have done to my current account. You do have to set up a new SO for the new RS.£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for the posts above.
I have updated the entries on the first page to note that the Ipswich Smart Save is only available to existing members and locals, and flagged up that the first direct regular savings account is going to be withdrawn. I was a bit confused by the exact date that it is going to be withdrawn (as 2nd February is not a Friday) so I have simply written that it will be withdrawn in February.
I will update this thread again next weekend.

For those new to this thread, the first few posts are constantly updated and are here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...d.php?t=6086970 -
It is definitely this Friday that it withdraws, the post on this part of the forum was copied from an email from another web site who got the day right but the date wrong. On First Direct's site it says 1st February 2013. But expect it to be back up again at a lower rate within a few days"Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

Has anyone more info on the Issue 6 Cheshire account been closed to anyone who has another issue of the account (i.e. 1-5)?0
-
Anyone is allowed one Issue 6 account whether or not they have previous issues.0

I have been to a branch of Derbyshire today as issue 1 platinum regular saver has matured.
I have got 4 out of the following 5 issues
I was told that it was a mistake that I had been allowed to open one of each issue, and that I can keep the accounts that I have but open no more until they have all matured.
I was told this applied to both Derbyshire and Cheshire accounts.0 -
Does seem a bit strange that very branch made the same mistake. And the "one per issue" seems consultant with other banks such as Santander esavers0
