I've had one of these accounts for ages and got a letter this morning saying the rate will drop to 2.5% on first 15k (1% over 15,001) from 15 March 2013.

    baaaaah

Still one of the better ones though because you can sensibly deposit £1K a month (for a while)
  • That's disappointing about the rate drop... i haven't been informed about it yet.

The Tesco Internet Saver is now down to 1.75% for new customers too. Sad times.

  • Norwich and Peterborough BS Regular Saver Account

Interest rate: 4% gross p.a. fixed (probably! see below)
    Monthly payment: £1-£250
    Miss any payments: No
Penalty-free withdrawals: Yes, one per account year.
    Age of applicant: Not stated
How to open account: Branch, telephone or post; can be operated online but cannot be opened online
Special conditions: The interest rate drops after the first 12 months. It is unclear if the bonus interest is fixed - the underlying 2.5% interest is definitely fixed for the first 12 months. The product information indicates that the interest rate is fixed for the first 12 months although it also states that "N&P reserves the right to vary the bonus rate at any time."

Norwich and Peterborough BS E-Regular Saver Account

Same details as the Regular Saver except that this account can only be opened and operated online.
Just opened this account and wanted to confirm the interest.

The bonus 1.5% is a fixed rate until anniversary. After the anniversary, a new bonus year begins and that rate will also be fixed (not variable).

The 2.5% underlying interest is fixed until the anniversary. After the anniversary the underlying interest paid becomes variable at the rate of another N&P savings account (can't remember the name of the other account but the advisor stated the current rate is 0.35% if memory serves me correctly). So year two overall rate if the fixed rate bonus remains at 1.5% would be 1.85% AER Gross

This information came from their staff during my enquiries prior to opening the account.

Someone claiming the interest rate for the FD Reg Saver will be "updated" in February. If there is substance to this rumour, it's going to be bad news...Keep your ears to the ground

    Regarding Nationwide Regular Saver account:

Quoting Post #2 "Penalty-free withdrawals: Your interest rate will be less than the rate stated above for any month where you make a withdrawal"

In fact withdrawals do not necessarily incur the penalty of a reduced interest rate. As long as the amount withdrawn is replaced and the account balance increases by the minimum £500 by the month end, the rate is still 2.5% for that month.
  • Hi Folks,

I have checked through everything and I cannot find anything that has changed.

Thanks innovate for posting that link. I have a First Direct regular savings account that has matured this week so, spurred on by that other thread, I have quickly opened a new one.

LittleVoice, I will alter that entry in a moment.

I will update this thread again next weekend.

Has anyone received a maturity pack for the Cheshire/Derbyshire Platinum Monthly Saver issue 1 or know if they plan to send out such a thing?
