Regular Savings Accounts: The Best Currently Available List!

The Scarborough website has what looks to be the same account but with £300 monthly limit and £18,000 max.
Does anyone know if this is a new version for 'new customers only' or whether existing accounts can increase their monthly contribution?
(I've looked on the website but couldn't find an answer and emailed them but have not received a reply.)
Monthly limit has increased to 300.00 to take account of new 3600 per year ISA limit, Scarborough do both a ISA and non ISA version of the monthly saver and have kept the products relatively the same hence the monthly limit being increased on both.
New limits should apply to all customers, thats obviously a question that Scarborough should be answering. I have the non ISA versionjust pay 10.00 a month into it now with the rate being lower than some other accounts.0 -

HSBC Regular Saver
Interest rate: 8% gross p.a. fixed rate (10% if you have a HSBC Premier, Bank Account Plus or Passport account)
Monthly payment: £25-250
Miss any payments: Yes, as many as you wish
Penalty-free withdrawals: No, but can close the account early with interest paid at the standard Flexible Saver rate
How to open account: In branch or by telephone
Special conditions: Must hold a current account with HSBC and the standing order must come from that account. You must have your monthly salary or pension paid in to your current account in order to open this savings account.
I'm sure most people are aware however the above is now no longer being offered by HSBC - maybe update post 1?0 -
Thanks for the info. For HSBC's Regular Saver, I think it has been completely withdrawn.
The interest rate page still shows what you have written below (withdrawn 6th April 2008 although interest rate page suggests it is still present for Premier, Plus and Passport customers). When I follow my old link though, the regular savings accounts have disappeared and if you check the pages on the Premier, Plus and Passport account pages, the regular savings account stuff has all disappeared, so I think the account has well and truly been withdrawn for all.
Thanks for pointing it out.
The First Direct regular saver ISA is now on Kazza's excellent thread.First Direct seem to have introduced a new regular saver, in addition to their standard 8% one.
This one pays 7% and is only available within an ISA.
Also, HSBC seem to have stopped selling their 8% Regular Saver account and their interest rate section now lists it under 'Products no longer Sold'.
However, the same interest rate section indicates that the 10% Regular Saver account for Premier, Plus and Passport customers is still available though I can't find it anywhere else on their website.

I have updated the first posts of this thread as follows:
- updated limit on Scarborough account (increased to £300)
- updated West Brom Magic 8 interest rate (down by 0.25%)
- removed HSBC account (discontinued from 6th April)
Thanks to the people above who have made useful contributions (which in turn have made it easier to update this thread).
I am only able to update this thread on Saturdays at the moment as I continue to work away from home without internet access during the week. Please do post useful information on this thread though and I will update the first posts again next Saturday.
All the best,

Just in case it is unclear from the posts above (and despite information being removed from the website - with the exception of the interest rates page) the HSBC Preferential Regular Saver (10%) is still available to Premier, Plus and Passport customers (although of course the associated Plus and Passport account fees and/or Premier minimum investment/salary conditions means that this account will be of limited/no interest to the majority).
Only the Regular Saver (8%), which was available to qualifying standard "Bank Account" customers, has been withdrawn.Up Tipp!0 -
Loughborough 6.5% Regular Saver withdrawn with immediate effect as of 14 April 08

Galloway Regular Saver also down to 7% as of 18.4.08

Now has a product called the Family Regular Saver, which pays 5% PLUS another 3% bonus if you keep it for the full year, don't miss payments/withdraw early. So that's a total of 8% interest.
The only thing is that it is available only to families with dependant children, and I'm told you can only have one per family (either in joint or single names).
I have spoken with them today and confirmed that you dont have to live in area/already have another account with them etc.
With rates falling on regular savers, this might be helpful to someone.0 -
Sounds like the days of the lucrative regular saver are over with so many rates falling and accounts being withdrawn.
I'm having a dilemma as to whether to withdraw my YBS reg funds and put them into an ICESAVE 6 mth fixed. Anyone else had any thoughts on this?0 -

Better to put in a high paying fixed account IMO.
Alliance and leicester are launching a 6.5% 1 year fix in next few days might not be the highest but would be more convenient to some as can be branch accessed
Obv keep YBS account open and pay minimum into it.0
