I was in a branch Friday just gone (14/3/08) and it was still available.
I intend to open one before the end of this month

If it is still available, WBBS seem to be doing their best to keep it a secret. Try looking on their website and all you'll find is the newsflash when they announced it in September last year. It doesn't appear on the list of savings accounts, and it doesn't appear on the table of current interest rates, neither for currently available nor for closed issues. WBBS recently sent me a booklet which listed all their current interest rate, and no surprise, the Magic 8 is missing.

Just as well I still have my passbook, or WBBS might deny that the account exists and that I have £6000 invested in it.

I'm just back, I opened the Magic 8 account with no problem. I had looked on the web site before heading out and there is no mention as you say. That's why I doubted it was still available but tpo anyone else interested, Yes, it is still there.

  • two questions regarding the Abbey Regular saver:

    1. Can you view your account online (I do not believe so but would be handy)
    2. Can you modify how much money goes in each month (by modifying the standing order) between £20 and £250?

    Thanks
  • 1. I don't think you can view it online
    2. I asked this question between setting up my account and the first SO payment as was told that I could before the first payment, but all the other payments had to be for the same amount as the first payment - so I managed to increase mine
  • I just rung up to confirm this, and the guy just said you can change the amount you pay in each month, which is fantastic news. I think I will be doing this for sure!

    I can confirm:
    1. You cannot view the account online (at least I could not when I had one and an Abbey current account last year)
    2. You can modify the amount that goes into the account between £20 and £250

I will also warn you that if you have a standing order from an Abbey current account to this regular saver and you try to look at it using online banking, it does not show up under the standing orders section (which is where I looked for it). Instead you have to look under a separate section with internal transfers to find the standing order (where you can change the amount online if you want to).

As for updating this thread, only 1 change that I have spotted - BMW Car Saver has dropped 0.5%, down to 7.25%.

Strangely enough, the details are still on their website. I do believe you though, particularly as this account has disappeared from moneysupermarket and fsa.gov.uk/tables. I have deleted that account from my list at the beginning of this thread.

I have made a little search and checked my own links - nothing else to update this week.
