Teachers building society have brought out issue 4 Regular saver today which pays 4%.
(edit to add you only need to print pages 2 & 3 of the application form, even more moneysaving !)

I also noticed that Northern Rock issue 4 has been withdrawn.

    Thanks for that.

I've just asked them and they say that people who have an earlier issue cannot also open an Issue 4 account whilst their existing account is still within the one year bonus period.

Will I receive a windfall payment if you convert?

The Society requires new customers to agree to assign to charity any windfall benefit to which they might become entitled on any conversion or takeover. The application form and the General Terms and Conditions give further details. Existing shareholding members as at 31 March 2000 who have continuously held a share account will not be required to assign any benefits to charity upon opening a new account. The Society has chosen the Charities Aid Foundation as the charity to benefit from any potential windfalls.

That's been standard for most building societies to stop the carpetbaggers opening tons of accounts on the hope of a windfall

I've seen that there's been some discussion about the accounts offered by West Brom BS, and it seems the conclusion was that they can only be opened in branch. The listing at the beginning of the thread still says branch or postal though, so is it somehow possible to apply by post, as Devon is a little far to operate the account in branch!

I e-mailed West Brom from their web site for an application form and successfully applied by post earlier this month.

Yes, I have their Regular Saver, operated by post from Cornwall.

P.S. I've just looked at their website again and I'm pretty sure it's changed since I applied. It used to have an application form that I downloaded, printed and posted.

    Hi Everybody,

    Here is this weekend's update.

    - Teachers' BS issue 3 account replaced with issue 4
    - Northern Rock account removed as no longer available
    - Entries on the West Brom accounts amended to show that it is branch only now and pointing out that you might be able to apply by post if you follow lucky77's lead (I agree that West Brom have changed their website and that previously you could download an application form)

I will do another update next weekend.

  • Hi Folks,

I have checked through everything and I cannot find any changes to regular savings accounts this week.

There was an announcement this week on emoneyfacts that West Bromwich BS has withdrawn its direct adult and child regular savings accounts on 19th July. I will point out that it is only the option to apply by post that has been withdrawn. The account is still available in branch. People on this thread had already discovered this change and have pointed out that it may be possible to apply by post by sending an e-mail (see post 1417).

I will do another update next weekend.

    Hi Everybody,

I have added a new Skipton BS account to post 4 (accounts that mature after 12 months). The details are below.

I will add the link to the Skipton BS website once the account appears there.

I will do another update next weekend.

    Have a nice weekend!

(Edit 20/08/11: Details of the new Skipton BS account removed from this post as some of the initial details from moneyfacts and emoneyfacts were incorrect. See post 4 for the correct details.)
