You don't need to wait until august to fund the account if you've already opened it.
To maximise interest gain fund the account on the 21st July, then change the S/O to make the next and subsequent payments on the 2nd of each month.0 -

What you have been told is absolutely correct you make the first payment the month after the account is opened.
Doing otherwise is a breach of the T&Cs.0 -
It looks like the first home saver has been closed to new customers. I can't see it on the website as an available product anyway. The interest rate for existing account holders seems to be unchanged at 5% when I look at the 13 page interest rate PDF. phew!
Does anyone have any more info? Employees or other rate busybodies etc.0 -

It was only launched on 4th July. They were quite clear (over the phone) about starting payments only beginning in the month following account 'opening' (i.e. from 2 August for accounts opened in July) I should be able to confirm that once the paperwork arrives - but that's how the predecessor FRMS accounts worked.
Before posting my earlier comments I spoke to 3 different CSA's at Santander savings account opening dept. to assertain what can/can't be done. All 3 advised that the initial payment can be made in the month of opening. Two of them stated that the date stipulation of 2nd-21st was there specifically so customers didn't fall foul of missing payments through bank holidays and weekends, but payments outside of this period would be accepted without penalty.
Par for the course really, conflicting, confusing and possibly costly information being touted by Santander.
When I asked them to send me a copy of the T&C's all 3 said that can only be done once the account is open !!!
I'll await your comments when the paperwork arrives before I proceed with my application.0 -

I am a PBA for Santander.

Hi Folks,
I have updated the first page of the thread. I have removed the Santander accounts that have been withdrawn. I have added the Progressive BS Clockwork Regular Saver and Santander Loyalty Fixed Rate Monthly Saver (Issue 1) to posts 2 and 5 respectively.
Thanks to the people who have posted information above.

Why isn't the Yorkshire Building Society Regular Saver 2 account listed?

Because it only pays 3% interest.0
