  • Bad news on the Furness Monthly Saver issue 2.

I have had my application returned advising that this issue can only be opened in branch (why they feel the need to restrict it in this way even for existing customers* is beyond me given that the rate, whilst good, is hardly setting the world alight at 3.5%).

In my opinion If people could still get higher than 4%, it is better to exhaust all of this option before moving to lower interest rate.

I do not know how Furness will compete with FD which offer 8% interest ?.

    Hi Folks,

    Here is this weekend's update.

This page on eMoneyfacts says that Furness BS have launched Monthly Saver Issue 2 paying 3.5%, details as follows:

I cannot find this account listed on the regular savings page of the Furness BS website but I will add this account to page 1 of this thread once it does appear.

I will also mention that Cheshire BS have launched their Regular Saver Issue 6 account. As it only pays 2.5% gross interest, it is not good enough to make it on to page 1 of this thread.

I will do another update next weekend.

    All the best,

They aren't trying to compete, why would they want to? Not everyone has the funds required to meet FD's funding requirements but would still like a reasonable rate on their regular savings.

FD's sibling, HSBC, have been offering 8% on their Regular Saver for quite some time - but only to holders of certain accounts.
  • Hi Everybody,

Here is this weekend's update. These items have already mentioned by folks in the posts above.

    - Removed the Scottish BS account which has been withdrawn
    - First Direct Regular Saver interest rate increased to 8% for new accounts

I still cannot find any trace of the Furness BS Monthly Saver second issue account on their website. Given premierfella's post above, I do believe it exists so I have added it to post 4.

I will do another update next weekend.

Does anyone know if this applies to new applications or has the bonus been terminated on existing accounts as well?

    Thanks
  • Info on here http://www.scottishbs.co.uk/dmdocuments/Rates%20List%20(2010-11).pdf suggests to me that it is now a closed issue, i.e. if you had one before it was closed, then you have still got it. It is just closed to new applicants.
  • Hi Folks,

I cannot find anything to change at the moment. I will do another update next weekend.

    All the best,

I received a letter regarding maturity of my Christmas Saver 2010:
The new Christmas Saver 2011 will launch as your funds mature.
Christmas Saver 2010, although called regular saver, allowed the max deposit of £1200 from day one. It matures on 1st Dec 2010.

i received the same letter ref my yorkshire xmas saver as well, shame that they have not advised what the rate will be as not on their website as yet.

i am also hoping that skipton open a new christmas regular saver, but as yet nothing on their site, which is unusual as has for the past couple years been available from last week of october/first week of november.
