My passbook arrived this week. I have just rung them and you can opn up to 6 of these accounts at any one time!!! Each can have an initial deposit of £1000 plus £250 per month.

    Cue the stampede...

They told me 10 accounts a week or so ago.... so maybe the stampede has already started!

    A question to everyone

Is there a regular saver that operates on non standing order deposits? I don't like automatic payments.

I don't think such a thing exists, but I ant an account where I can pay in whatever I want every month and I need the account to not allow withdrawals

You may have a problem finding one to meet all of your criteria, one that may come close on the deposit front is Yorkshire B.S. http://www.ybs.co.uk/savings/regular/regular_saver.html here the minimum monthly payment is £10, but you can pay in more (if your funds permit) at a branch or online. In order to qualify for the current bonus rate (3% gross, 2.4% net), you can only miss one payment per year. Regretfully though, (in your case) you are allowed to make withdrawls, make more than one per year and you lose the bonus.
A strong dose of willpower to be taken three times a day would be required :(
  • Hi Folks,

I am still having trouble with my internet access but I have just updated the first page of this thread thanks to a friend's computer.

    - Santander First Home account - I have changed the age information to "aged between 16 and 35" as mentioned in a post above
    - Halifax International - T.x had warned that they were going to close to new customers and that people had to open an account before 2nd August in post 1108 but from their website it appears that they are still open for business so I have removed my warning from the appropriate entry in post 4
    - Furness Monthly Saver - paying 4% variable on £25-£250 (£1,500 if you open 6 accounts) as discussed in posts above, added to post 4

That is all for now. I should be able to do another update this weekend.

Hi SS2 - I don't think you can open new Halifax International RS accounts now. The Apply Now link takes you to:-

"New customers can take the opportunity to apply for a Lloyds TSB account immediately.
Please click on the link below to view some of the International products we have on offer to you."

As ctd says, Halifax International is now closed to new customers; to be exact, from their email:

"As from 2nd August 2010 Halifax International is closed to new customers. As you applied for this new account before this date... You have until the close of business on 27th August 2010, to have your account opened and funded."
  • Thanks a lot, clicking on the "Apply Now" link, I see what you mean.

I have gone back and deleted the Halifax International account from the list.

    All the best,

  • Hi Everybody,

Principality appear to be offering two separate special Regular Savers:

http://150.principality.co.uk/news-and-events/news/News-Items/Rewarding%20Members.aspx refers to a "Members Regular Saver Bond" offering 5% and available to people who have been a member for 2 years or more (I have been a member for more than 2 years, but not the last 2 years - am I eligible?). Also it is not even clear if this is still available.

http://150.principality.co.uk/news-and-events/news/News-Items/Join%20in%20the%20Branch%20Birthday%20Celebrations.aspx refers to a "Birthday Regular Saver Bond" with no interest rate mentioned (but other sites mention 5%), available to "customers visiting the branch" according to the linked schedule. There is no mention of the "2 years membership" and customers are presumably different to members as the bond is "designed especially to thank our members and customers".
