Can I ask what certified ID you are using? I'm really not keen on sending original driving licence or passport and I suspect to get a copy certified is going to cost.
A quick back of the envelope calculation and we're probably looking at an extra £30ish interest over the year compared to a 2.8% instant a/c so it's not worth spending much on.
Thanks,

Jeddy,
We have a friend who is an accountant who has signed a copy of our bank statement and passport without any charge.
I agree that having to pay for a signature would make a difference, it used to be the case that if you went to your bank they would certify copies free for you, but that no longer is an option.
Have you any friends/neighbours who are doctors, teachers, policeofficers etc.
It is a shame they dont do electronic Id checks, these seem to be the norm with most banks/building societys these days.0 -

D'oh - my better half's father is a (semi-retired) GP! Sorry, I was being slow there, I was thinking more of my own GP and they have a sign at the counter saying what they charge for such services.
Thanks!

Santander First Home Saver (Special Issue 1)
Interest rate: 5% gross p.a. variable from 1st February 2009
Monthly payment: £100-£300 per month, initial deposit £100-5,000, maximum balance £50,000
Miss any payments: Yes, but you only get paid 0.1% gross p.a. interest on your entire balance for that month
Penalty-free withdrawals: No but you can close the account without penalty
How to open account: In branch
Special conditions: Only account per person. Need to be aged under 35 and not own a home. Need to agree to have a mortgage interview before you can close the account (although you are not obliged to take out a mortgage with Santander). This interview can be held up to 90 days before you close the account.
My other half and I successfully opened two of these yesterday. Interestingly, they let him have one despite the fact he's 35. It appears the info on their website is wrong - the documentation we were given in branch states that you have to be "aged between 16 and 35" at time of taking it out.
Worth knowing if you're 35!
Also, it would appear you can open this account even if you're 16 or 17 - too young to have a mortgage! I wonder what they do then when you want to close the account? Maybe you have to have a very short mortgage interview - "Right, well as you are under 18 we can't offer you any of our products - goodbye"!

Can anyone confirm if the Halifax RS is still at 5%, I can't seem to find anything on their site about, all I can find is something about; "Save between £25 and £500 every month for 12 months by standing order and get a rate of 2.00% AER fixed for a year."
Any Help?0 -

I had a look at the Regular Savers at: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/sav...vings-accounts
The Santander one looks interesting at 4%, but is the offer of 6% on still if I open a Current Account with them?
Thanks.0 -

So I have to use their switching service? I currently use pay all my bills using my Barclays Student Account, I don't really want to transfer over any of my DD. I also have a Halifax Current Account, but I don't have any direct debits set up on it. Do they require DD to be transferred also?0
