The Saffron Regular Saver is now branch opening only
Hmm, hope they still accept my application on the downloaded form - they should have received it Mon or today......
  • Hi,

Just to let you know Saffron BS have told us they will accept all postal applications received by the end of the week (Friday 30th July).

    Hope that helps.

Can anyone with the Santander Fixed Rate Monthly Saver issue 12 terms and conditions confirm for me that the details on page 1 are still current (i.e. first payment is not to be made in the month the account is opened, but in the following month)?

I opened one by telephone over a week ago which (thanks to the A&L migration) I can see has been opened but I have not received any documentation through the post yet. I walked into a branch today to get the terms and conditions but was told they did not have them and that the first payment needs to be credited in the month the account is opened (which is either incorrect or the terms and conditions have changed since I last had one of these accounts).

    Thanks in advance.

I'm a little surprised that no-one was able to give me an answer, but I have now received the paperwork - the first payment is still to be made in the month following the month the account was opened (so yet again I received incorrect advice from a member of staff at Santander - it would be nice if just once they would simply say if they don't know the answer rather than give incorrect information as if it were fact).

[STRIKE]Can you have this account displayed along with your current account(s) then? I would have thought they could not do this since the FRMS account 'number' has a non standard reference and no sort code as such?[/STRIKE]

[Arr! I see! The account is there in the list of accounts held but it cannot be added to be viewed online]

    Hi All

Another regular saver for us from Principality paying 4% fixed for a year.
    http://www.principality.co.uk/default.aspx?page=2010
The Rugby regular saver allows £20 to £500 to be added each month, in more than one payment which is not normally available on their accounts. It can be held in addition to any other regular savers you hold with them.
    No withdrawals allowed.
Apply in branch, or online and print out the form and send it with your cheque (freepost)

Looks like they have 'shut shop' a bit early on this:
    http://www.saffronbs.co.uk/savings/display.product.php?categoryID=1&category=general&productID=g2

This product is now available in Saffron's branches only.
If you would like to open a Regular Saver account, please visit one of our branches. You can use our branch finder to find the branch or agency closest to you.

E-mail recieved today from Halifax International:
As from 2nd August 2010 Halifax International is closed to new customers. As you applied for this new account before this date we want to ensure you can still take the opportunity to complete your application for this product. You have until the close of business on 27th August 2010, to have your account opened and funded.

I had a phone call from them yesterday to confirm they had received my application and that it would be processed in the fullness of time.

Santander Fixed Rate Monthly Saver (Issue 12)

Interest rate: 4% gross p.a. fixed
    Monthly payment: £20-£250
Miss any payments: Yes, but your savings only get 0.1% for that month
Penalty-free withdrawals: No, your savings get 0.1% for that month if any withdrawals
How to open account: In branch or by post
Special conditions:You open your account without paying in any money. You set up a standing order to start the following month, for between £20 and £250 a month. Interest is paid directly into the account after close of business on the 1st of the month following your 13th monthly payment into the account. Your account will automatically become a Flexible Saver account at this time earning a much lower interest rate.
Money Saver mary confirms that it is possible to open this account and a Super Fixed Rate Monthly Saver at the same time.
Money Savers steveteach and knights (posts 420 and 438) confirm that it is possible to open one account for each issue (e.g. you can open an Issue 8 account even if you already hold an Issue 7 account).

When I clicked on the link to go to Santander's website, I couldn't find the above information about being able to make withdrawals (albeit with an interest penalty). What I did find was:
To encourage a savings habit, no withdrawals are allowed from Fixed Rate Monthly Saver – Access is allowed on account closure only

Can anyone tell me where I can confirm what Special_Saver2 wrote? I would most probably need access to my funds before the 12 months were up.

    Thanks,

If you need access, close the account - at the beginning of a month (check whether this is a calendar month or "account month") to minimise the interest penalty.
