  • Oh and put up the new tank stand. I forgot that small task!
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • Also paid off the spends CC, so that is 0 and the Big CC is 1680.

I am going to get my personal savings up to a 1000 + and then try  and get shot of it. I still have a 1000 of it left in case of emergencies....so that would leave 680. which would be ok to get rid of by Christmas

Lino could in theory go over existing floor but you'd just be covering the issue and the dogs would still be able to smell the pee and keep doing it.

Could you start batch cooking some soups for your Mum for lunch.  Get some of those microwave pots and fill them up for the weeks lunches (soup will be fine in the fridge for a few days). Maybe add in a couple of days of baked beans/spaghetti hoops (if she'll eat them) then all she's got to do it warm that up whilst popping a bit of toast in the toaster.  No tins to open, no faffing with saucepans for her.   You could make enough soup for a few weeks and freeze in batches to make it easier for you.  If you've got a slow cooker then bung everything in there to cook and it's even less hassle.

You could also make a batch of pasta up at the weekend, cool it as soon as it's cooked and coat in a bit of olive oil, pop it into portioned pots and then make a few side bits she can make up a meal from....a bowl of salad, some tuna Mayo, some hard boiled eggs, a basic tomato sauce (even if it's just out of a jar, if it's open and in the fridge ready to spoon on, it will be far easier for her and you).

Rather than looking for a new oven why not look at getting a halogen oven, you can get them with hinged lids (ideal as the lids can be heavy) and as they're touch button timers/on/off it would be easier for her to use if she feels the need to cook something.  They also turn themselves off after a set amount of time so no danger of her leaving it going for hours.

I had a few years with DH when he first had his accident that he tried really hard to do things himself and it just became frustrating for him and hard work for me so I put my foot down and told him how it would be.  That's essentially what you need to do for your Mum. She is an adult so she can still have choices but those choices are "eat a decent meal that I've prepped for you so it doesn't tire you out" or "we get meals on wheels/carers to come in at lunch time to help you".    If she relies on your help then she needs to understand that your help is being given on a conditional basis in order to let you have a bit of life back and less stress.

I think you can lay it on top of the existing floor but then the smell might always be there x

Re the dogs, if the back door is mostly open then I think you're right, they have got in the habit of using the conservatory rather than it being an access issue.  Is your mum mobile enough to walk them through to the garden every couple of hours so that they have a reminder and might start going out there again?

The washable puppy pads I posted would help stop stuff soaking through to the flooring, but might not help the longer term habit.

My basic plan at the moment is to rearrange the furniture and feed them out there, if we are using it as a room then maybe that will put them off further?  The trouble with any sort of puppy pad is dog two likes to pee up things (the recycling box, the chair... ) so I am not sure I will ever fix it. As in I can't see what he has pee'd up.

Any how no accidents so far today. Fingers crossed.

  • The Air Ambulance just landed near me, absolutely horrible feeling of dread and fear, I hate things like that. Can only be serious. Really hope the person in it is ok.

I am going to deep clean the kitchen and then continue with the conservatory. No idea what to have for lunch! XX

There are also some combi microwaves that have an oven and grill function, and the controls are just the touch buttons.  (I bought one thinking it would be a good extra to be able to use it for grilling etc, but actually never use it except as a microwave - pity you're now the other end of the country or you could just have the thing, it's much bigger than I need!)
