It's really hard work trying to cook for everyone with the microwave/combi. I'm hoping that they will be able to fit the new oven relatively quickly. It's too small really, and I don't have a lot of trays small enough to fit inside. I've discovered the grill on it too, so I can at least have toast. I'll wait and see what the grill is like on the new oven before I get a toaster as I don't want another appliance really. The oven cooks so much better though, once we do the kitchen I think I'll definitely switch to an electric oven.
Both kiddles have done really well with their swimming today. Little jwil has moved up a level, and little miss has reduced her floats. Very pleased with them both, however little jwil's new lessons are going to be Saturday lunchtime which is a real pain for doing anything else!
We've had a fairly quiet weekend, pottering about in the house and the garden. My favourite typeDH is even talking about reducing the amount of stuff he's got in the front room. Fingers crossed!
We looked into getting our sofas restored the other day, but it looks like it would cost a fortune to do so. It's a shame as there is nothing really wrong with them structurally, just the leather has some damage and they need restuffing in a couple of places. So it looks like next year we may see if we can replace them. They are 15 years old, so have done us well. It's just a shame that it costs more to repair stuff than to replace it!

doingitanyway said:A difficult situation without doubt but congratulations on getting the house fund together so you can respond. Hope you get sorted with the new cooker soon.
Fingers crossed I hear from the gas man tomorrow as well."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee4 -
Our new cooker turned up just after 7 this morning hurrah! No news from the gas man though *sigh*. I'm hoping he'll still get back to me.
Not much to report really. I've updated the kids wish lists on Amazon so will keep an eye out in case anything suitable for Birthday or Christmas comes up over the Prime day sales. I'm skinto this month, but do have some vouchers saved up so will use them if necessary."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Well the gas man never got back to me
It's so hard to find tradespeople! Luckily DH managed to find someone and so the oven was fitted yesterday thankfully. It's a relief to have a cooker again!
Things are getting worrying regarding DH's job. They are very quiet due to the restrictions and all the staff are worrying now.
I didn't buy anything on Prime Day, there was nothing really good on there IMO. I have little miss's birthday gift in my basket and it's been quite amusing seeing the price gradually trickle downwards over the last couple of days. Hopefully it will keep going!
I'm at a virtual conference today and yesterday. It's working quite well and nice not to have to travel.
Hope everyone is well"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee6 -
So pleased your oven is back! Brilliant news. Typical about the gasman. I never have any luck with tradesman.
I didn't get anything in the prime sales either.
Sorry about hubby's job. The good news is yours sounds secure and you have savings. You've done really well. XxxLoan 1 £5200/£8000

I'm lucky in that I'm probably secure for the next 2 years, after that it will be iffy. However, I'll take it while I've got it, and we could manage if DH lost his job, though it wouldn't be easy. It's a whole different situation to how things were even last time he was out of work, so that's positive"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". We were meant to have our flu jabs today, booked ages ago (and then rescheduled on the phone at their request). Turned up to find out they were only offering over 65s. 😡 They knew our ages, they've sent several reminders this week, and they managed to cancel the previous appointment when it wasn't going to be suitable. Very unimpressed. I can get mine tomorrow at the docs, so it's not such an issue for me, but very annoying for DH and a wasted journey and wasted money on parking!
The pharmacist was also annoyed as there were two of them there, and there weren't many over 65s booked so a wasted day and a lot of angry customers!
Luckily I have managed to book DH an alternative appointment elsewhere (hopefully that won't be cancelled!) and I have spoken to the docs and will get mine tomorrow.
Now swimming have just cancelled little jwil's lesson just as we were about to leave. He's upset now too as it was his first lesson at a higher level.
What a blooming day!!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee6 -
Our pharmacy is only vaccinating under 65s. Shame we are over that as our appointment was nearly 4 weeks ago which was cancelled and we still have no idea if/when it will be. I have actually complained to my MP as my dh is over 70. Very annoyed at the whole system ( or lack of it). A statement on the radio yesterday from the DoH said there is no shortage of vaccine so something is going wrong somewhere. I have booked at my GP but that wont be until the second week of November but left the pharmacy one as you never know they may come up with something. Will cance after the GP assuming that goes ahead. Cant get anything anywhere else around here

It's just such a shambles isn't it. They don't seem to have a clear plan, but are at the same time asking everyone to get vaccinated early. Asda is the only place taking private bookings here, I think it's a bit easier if you are eligible on the NHS. I hope you manage to get it sooner."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee5 -
