Well done CCl and I think the Swedish fairy rewarded you with the bedside table! That was the icing on the cake!
Sooo impressed you can wield a power tool and get all these flat packs together. A tour de force! xx11 -
You rock CCL! Love the image of you swinging that hammer. Like Rosie the Riveter with a lump hammer. It is fine to take a day off when you have just finished two whole rooms plus a bathroom- and don't forget you can take a lot of stuff to the tip in your car if necessary. Be clever about what goes in the skip and what can go in the car.You need your space too now. You deserve it. Safe haven for CCL who holds everything together.Sounds like you have done masses of stuff.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Well, CCL, I was feeling pretty tired after doing over 12,000 steps today..... I sat down to have a rest & catch up on here. I read about your latest exploits & frankly I no longer feel tired, I feel exhausted! Nothing quite as cathartic as a really good chuck-out! And fancy finding that item you wanted in Bargain Corner! It was meant to happen.

Morning
Well, I had a night in bed on my own for the first time in about 18 months. DS moved in with me after a scary experience at his dad's in October 2018 and would not move back again. Until his room was completely redone! It looks like a different place in there (although still a huge mess as is customary for him). Bed arrived about half ten yesterday and the lads very kindly left it at the top of the stairs for me so I could get straight on assembling it (that wasn't too tough as it's a divan). Took me about 45 mins and then I added his new bedding and I got in to try it out (as he was still asleep). Could have just gone back to sleep but I didn't... dd got up and asked if we could take her bedding back and buy something to hide a patch on her wall where the wallpaper was missing and we painted over it but she can still see it.
So off we went to return the duvet cover with no pillowcases, to a different branch of the same chain, who refused to take it back because it had been opened. I went into full Karen mode (as dd calls it) and demanded the manager - saying that it hadn't been on the bed and had only been opened to look for pillowcases, and that it was a rip off. Manager told me that all stock is now sold with a sticker attached that says non returnable once opened because of Covid - so I asked him to show me the sticker anywhere on the packaging and of course it wasn't there. And he said it should be. So he looked at my receipt and saw that I had bought at the Sunderland store but was returning it to their store, and he went off on one about the Sunderland store not doing what it's supposed to be doing, and then refunded dd her money. Needless to say that has really put her off wanting to go back to that (really expensive) homestore (rhymes with Fun Elm) and she wanted to go to the Grangeround the corner, where she bought a clock for her wall as she'd wanted, and a lamp, and something else I can't remember - then I got dragged to Bee Emm homestore for a rug for ds room (in the sale), a jewellery box and some throws and cushions. DD's room looks like a palace now.
It rained the whole time, and I was tired just driving so when we got home I just plonked on the sofa and relaxed for a bit then decided to have an early night and went to bed at 9pm. Except when I got there I felt like making a start on my room so I started decluttering my bedside tables ready for the replacement to go in there when I decorate. So I did that and got into bed then started looking on t'internet and ended up being still awake after 1amTotally my own fault but I am planning on having a bedroom haven of my own in the next week or so. I have found a relatively cheap solution for my disgusting dark brown wood veneer built in wardrobes that are excellent for storage but look awful. Stickyback plastic! I found it cheap at w1lko and ok needed 9 rolls to cover my 15 x 8 feet wardrobes but it will be worth it to hide the brown-ness.
And cheaper than new doors, or new wardrobes. And yes, my bedroom is 15 feet long, I am a lucky lady I know.
Slept well, although not long enough. Woke up right in the middle of my bed with NT2 for company. Felt tired and came down for my morning cuppa then fell asleep on the sofa again... until ds friend who I'm looking after today rang me to be picked up (I went for him in my jammies). I'm less achey than yesterday but still tired.
Plans include getting the old bedside tables in the garden, ready for next skip coming, then getting my old bed down and the new one up. Then covering it well so I can decorate. Might try and get the ceiling done today - that's always the messiest bit, but only 1 coat of paint usually. Wonder if I should do the painting before the bed actually - just sleep on my mattress for a couple of days. Hmmm. Decisions to make... I'm sure that you're all waiting with baited breath to hear what I decide to do, lol.
First though, I'm going to have some brunch - I'm hungry. Not giving up

There is a type of sticky back stuff called Dc fix which is very good. Alternatively for 17.99 i have discovered a brilliant paint called Frenchic very recently which you can use to paint anything including wardrobes. It is used by those shops that upcycle then sell on old furniture and some of those type of shabby chic shops stock the paint too. There is a fan page on what my son calls facecloth where there are some brilliant makeovers. We have just done our kitchen including painting the kitchen units and tiles and are well pleased with the results. You might want to check it out though it becomes addictive with people painting kettles toasters and fridges to match!! It is only right that you should have your own little haven after all your hard work13

I agree with Tescodealqueen, chalk paint is really good for covering up ugly surfaces, is easy and quick - surfaces generally don't need much prep, just slap it on, the paint itself is water based and just washes off anything (ask me how I know!) and comes in lovely soft colours. You can seal it with a special soft wax afterwards to render the surface a bit tougher and washproof, but it is easy to add another coat when needed. There are several brands - Annie Sloan does one, also Rustoleum, and several others as it is (unsurprisingly, give how easy it is) very popular. I dread to think of the mess I would get into with yards of sticky back plastic, but of course you may be more dexterous than me at that kind of fiddly task! I would end up getting cats stuck behind it for sure13

I'm planning to upcycle my dark pine dressing table with chalk paint. Haven't tried it, but have heard that, as DawnW says, it's easy to use & can be waxed to look pretty stylish. Can't wait to try it!
