Crazy Cat Lady Chapter 4 - The Aftermath

CCL check out the Frenchic. I think it's quite new and is for interior and exterior, is self leveling, so no brush strokes, and waterproof I believe. She painted a (shiny surface) dining table and said it's turned out brilliant.

Oh gawd you lot aren't good, I was thinking the other day I might have to look into painting my kitchen cabinets as there are a few minor dings & flaws that are constantly catching my eye at the moment so now i'm going to actually have to look into it.
CCL my housemate has just informed me 'fun elm' often has duvet covers with no pillow cases as shes been caught out before (I asked her opinion on M'talan quality as i've seen some I like there & she got muddled)- Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted

Yes TDQ - That's what I've bought! It's called DC-fix. I'm excited to try it out, but will definitely remember the chalk paint for when I eventually get to my kitchen with it's hideous peach tiles!
I'm pleased we weren't the only ones caught out with having to buy separate duvet and pillow cases. DD is still beyond disgusted with Funelm and doesn't want to go back there for their 'overpriced rip off merchandise'. You can always rely on a teenager for the truth eh? And besides which, she has completely fallen in love with The Grange now (also better in my opinion). She was literally trying to make up reasons for me to take her back there yesterday afternoon. We didn't go.
There has been progress Chez CCL and plans have changed a little bit. I eventually kicked my backside and made a start yesterday morning. Took the old brown bedside tables into the garden then got on with dismantling the bed. It was heavy... AND it smashed up into small enough pieces for me to sneak it into the skip as well without stuff overflowing. So I have decided that as the bed has gone in the skip, I can manage the remainder of the rubbish with my lump hammer. So I have cancelled my second skip and saved £250 and booked an appointment at the tip on Tuesday. I will take whatever I can fit in the car, and then book another appointment and slowly finish off that way. The skip was excellent for the shed and all the rubbish in there, which would never get in my car in a billion years, and other large items but I can smash chairs and cupboards up into smaller pieces that will fit. And the tip takes electrical items... so if the rain has washed the shed garbage clean I will put it in the car and dispose at the tip thus saving another tenner.
Once the bed was down I noticed a couple of things about my carpet. 1. Someone (ds) had clearly spilt a can of Irn Bru under there and not cleared it up so I had a massive, bright orange stain to deal with, and 2. My big black lady who liked to sleep in the middle under the back of the bed had shed so much fur there that I couldn't hoover it out of the carpet. After half an hour of trying with the Irn Bru I made another executive decision and took dd with me to the carpet shop.So I am getting a new carpet too now - another remnant - in and fitted for £120. Got a discount as I was only there last week. I figured that the current carpet has been in there 16 years and I would never get another opportunity to have such a small amount of furniture in the room again. There's no bed, no bedside tables and just the mattress and a couple of chairs and storage boxes at the minute. Quickly then paid £140 onto the cc to assuage my guilt about buying a new carpet.
Got home, painted the ceiling in there and then gave up for the day. My knees had gone again and I was very tired by this point. Quick shower and then moved my quilt and pillow to the sofa bed in the living room, which is where I will be sleeping until Tuesday when I will have a new carpet and can set up my room. My sofa bed is quite uncomfortable, and the cats were quite put out that I was sleeping in the living room - but 2 of them joined me. I'm not well rested and aching again this morning but I don't know if that's the work or the sofa bed.
The good news is that the ceiling in my room is fine with 1 coat of paint so I can get on with other stuff in there. The plan is for me to fill some holes in the walls and start on the paintwork. With one whole wall of brown wardrobe there is a wall less of skirting board to paint so I will try and get that done while I wait for the filler to dry. I'm having my small walls done in teal and my remaining large wall done in pale grey (leftovers from other rooms), and I'm hoping to get the two small walls painted once (both window and radiator walls so not loads of painting to do there) today. Also planning to catch up with bestie over coffee for a couple of hours as well. Probably in between coats of paint. We shall see how today goes. I feel like a machine at the moment so I'd best keep going while I'm this motivated because it definitely won't last for ever. Not giving up

CCL coming out of lurkdom to say well done on all your DIY. Yesterday I was driving home from shopping when a car pulled up slightly in front to the side of me . On the back it said Crazy cat lady with two cat foot prints . I tried to take a photo but failed miserably. Did you come to the The Grange in Manchester 😂. Only kidding but the car looked great.Have a good day with all your jobs.Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.12

Great savings on the skip, much better to repurpose the money for a new carpet - you will appreciate the spend for years to comeFashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Deffo no need to feel guilt about new carpet - you deserve it, better to renew now while the furniture is out.9

Cancelling the skip in favour of calorie-burning lump hammer action has defo paid for your bedroom carpet. We now have a 'Grange' in our town. I haven't visited yet, but will put it on the list for a day when I have the car.
I am so looking forward to when we get to new carpet time. We don't have any fizzy drink stains but plenty from cat mishaps over the years.
Am really enjoying reading about your home improvements progress.

I have taken a leaf out of your book today CCL and have been clearing storage boxes, and boxes, of stuff (random tat), so far 4 down. By all the gods it is so boring though!!! Still, it did not appear in one day, but at least half of it can be gone in one day. I do not have to book for the tip, you do at the county sites, but the city sites are all still turn up and wait. So would you like to guess what I am doing next week? Yeah, a nice family trip to the tip. The kids will love it.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

I don't think we would enjoy the tip half as much if we had to queue for it. The counties either side of us have a turn up and wait system and the queues always look massive. Appointments are a much better way to do it in my opinion.
I haven't been to the Grange in Manchester yet Sunshine Girl but I think it'll just be a matter of time until dd makes me go there. She's worried that they might have something different at one of the other branches. Foxgloves - you will love the Grange - the old you would have been in there as often as dd and spending on lots of stuff - I know it.
Struggling more than I thought with my physical aches and pains today. I am exhausted. I have a new varicose vein and a really sore muscle around my injured knee. It took me over an hour this morning to finish removing nails and wires from my room and fill in holes in walls, but the blinds are down and holes are filled. I did the first coat of paint on the skirting boards and door frame and then went to bestie's for a couple of hours. The plan was to come home and nap, but me and dd ended up doing the two window walls and then I did the second coat on the skirtings and the first on the door. I'm done for the day, with my bedroom door firmly closed after the grey tabby ended up looking like he belonged in a Pepe le Pew cartoon. I'd only done the skirting boards!!!
Also washed some blankets but I haven't done any sorting today f0xh0les. The stuff in my room has made its way towards the centre of the room and I'm decorating around it. Sorting will have to be done before carpet fitting on Tuesday... Or everything chucked into my massive wardrobesI feel like I'm flagging a little bit now though. I hope I sleep better tonight.
