  • Oh, forgot to add, we've had a 2 seater sofa in our huge out house since we moved as we had no room for it, and probably won't anywhere new, so OH said if I posted it and contacted anyone who would buy it, that I could have the whole £20 we listed it for :joy: it was just going to the tip otherwise, so easy cash for me :) they are coming to collect this evening :)

Sorry about the house, but well done on tackling the bills, and selling the sofa!

  • Glad to hear the bill splitting is now sorted, sometimes they just need telling lol :)
Sorry to hear about the viewing, hopefully something better will come along soon, did he indicate as to why he wasn't even planning on considering it, as this may save you some time in the future.  x

  • Well, a huge row ensued when I finally tried talking face to face with OH about the bill splitting, it’s like talking to a brick wall when he’s decided his opinion is the correct one, he thinks it’s more fair to split the bills 50/50 regardless of income, I obviously think it’s fairer to do it based on income so we are at a bit of an impasse today, we’ll see what he says at some point today but I don’t think I’m being unreasonable lol it’s only 56/44 split so not too drastic :joy:

Just that he thinks its not fair that he should pay more just because he earns more lol :)
  • Morning MSE :)

In a really chipper mood all things considered, been paying OH £50 a month for a while still paying back one of the old cars I had so this is actually going to be my first proper debt-busting target, was never included in my official amount as it's just been part of my budget for such a long time. However, there is about £500 remaining so sent £10 to him this morning with the balance remaining as the reference, don't want this in the mix any more if we are going to be having a fair budget. Had planned to overpay a different debt next month with my two paydays but I think if I work hard, I can probably clear this £500 within a month :)

So, as it stands, £10/£500 progress so far this morning. Looking at my forecast budget, I should be able to pay another £200 to this on Friday, and then any extra pennies I earn as well as some of my SE wages can go towards paying him off.

If it wasn't for the tenancy clean budget I'd definitely be able to pay him back completely within the month, however this does need to be budgeted for so no grumbles there really.

Left early for work and was glad I did as a major roundabout on my route is having works done to its traffic signals which I did notice driving home last night but hadn't factored it into my journey time this morning, so at least now I know to do so :)

Not sure if this is what you've done, but have you tried splitting bills with OH so that you each spend x% of income on bills and therefore keep (100-x)% (either before or after tax depending on how it suits your numbers!)? He might see that a bit 'fairer' with him earning more and keeping more- sorry if you've already phrased it this way or worked it out this way!

That's definitely another option to look at, will have to try and get my head around the maths for that though :joy:

    All I did was
    - Total our household income
    - Work out what proportion of the household income our individual income makes
    - Apply that percentage to the bills we share from living together e.g. rent, groceries, utilities, tv and broadband

He pays more than his "percentage" as the rent, council tax and utilities come from his account so I worked out the amount I would need to pay him to "top up" his account so his share of the bills only comes to the percentage worked out earlier, if that waffling makes any sense?! :joy: then if any bills change amount, or come from someone elses account in the future, then the numbers all adjust to keep it at the same proportion
