2020: Becoming a Saver, Not a Spender

  • Thank you both :)

Honestly I actually don't mind hunting down the new house, we've missed a few as he emailed rather than phoned them, so at least I know I will have done as much as I can. Once I've found somewhere we'll be sharing responsibility with the costs, moving, etc.

I have managed to disguise my nail by painting my nails :joy: which weirdly I think is subconsciously helping as I'm not looking at the big bruise :joy:

Looks like the Amazon driver won't be arriving until after I finish work which is a pain, but one more day to try the tape isn't such a bad thing.

2 houses phoned today, one was reserved this morning and the other initially said no pets but then called back to say they could be considered, but only had a really awkward time available so I asked her to please let me know if any appointments came up in the time frame where I can re-jig my lunch break to go out and view.

Still, more progress than we have had for a while!

Yes, definitely, he needs to keep one month's direct debit in credit on the account and I'll need to take photos when I get home of the meter readings and serial numbers so they can't dispute, but he should be able to get £400-£500 refunded. I took the chance to point out that this is why I've kept nagging him about the really high direct debit :joy:

Wise move haha! I have pointed out that if he wants to pay me a finders fee for 'finding' this £600 then I won't complain :joy: my monthly payment to him is based on half of our total costs for living in the house including groceries and utilities, so I don't see why not lol.

I'm also going to tentatively suggest that we pay proportionately for the house bills from some point in the future, it's quite noble I've always tried to go halves on our house bills but, practically, he is on around £10k more pa than me if I get good SE wages, £15k pa on poor SE wages/my new salary from September, so maybe it's time to adjust it a little bit?

  • Good luck on the house hunt, perhaps the 600.00 should go straight into the coat of moving pot lol as it is money he was never expecting lol.... I'm going to try your sellotape trick, I had never heard of that we got our brucey in November last year and she's a pain for scratching the bed frame x

    Pennies starts again...........2022 - £13,579.22

  • Having checked there is still £40 credit from our old address to :joy: my life......

Have drafted an email requesting both refunds and requesting the direct debit to be reduced as it’s clearly far too high. Took some readings to work out our annual usage as we’ve been here basically a year.

@Lookafterthepennies2020 I had heard of the idea but didn’t know there was a handy product to order from Amazon :joy: once he isn’t scrambling around on bits of the bed it should be fine to have him in with us :) agreed about the money going straight into the moving pot, btw!

Briefly mentioned to OH about adjusting the household bills, worked out were less 50/50 and more 43/57 income contributions which puts me at least £100 better off a month, will see what he thinks when we actually decide to talk about it lol
  • Seems sensible to split the bills proportionately to your salaries, with the pending move it seems the perfect time to get this sorted.

Really hope you find a new home soon, you're going to have a full on end to the year aren't you with the new job and moving? You'll ace it all though 🙂

And £600 credit? Yikes 🤯 good plan to put it in the moving pot though x

Yes it’s going to be very crazy for a while!

Have emailed (well, OH sent my draft) to the supplier and I have also filled out a contact form asking how we can transfer the account to my name as that’ll making switching at some point in the future much easier rather than closing one account in his name and then opening another in my name, it’ll be easier if I can just manage this account until we choose to switch and then I can badger as necessary if there are any further issues and will do better with shopping around for a switch :joy:
