Looking at my OP it is clear IT was (is) an area of life I was seeking to improve and I definitely ate some frogs this year to forward this aim. Covid has forced me further as I was forced to move away from using cash to constantly using contactless. This led me to lose track of where I am with money and although I did not go overdrawn I wasted energy worrying I might be. So, I’m planning to download an app to help me see in real time what my financial situation is. To do this I need a smartphone. The big news is I have ordered one. It is a big outlay but it will help get me organised financially.
The new phone will also enable me to see/communicate with friends and family here and around the world and stay in better contact (especially in times of lockdown)
I put the purchase on the CC and I am determined to pay the bill in full when it comes. So, January will be VERY FRUGAL . I don’t mind. In fact I am looking forward to seeing how little I can spend. Anyone else planning a VERY FRUGAL JANUARY?

What kind of phone did you get ? 📲 If you got an iPhone I'd say it's a good move if you have a Mac computer, which I think you said you have .I will have to get a new sim only one myself , which may be this year . Depends on how many more software updates that happen in 2021 .I'll leave it there ..7

Congrats Beanie and DIA on splashing the cash. Sometimes it takes as much growth to know where and when to spend our money as when not to. Happy New Year.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I went sim free too.
I agree @savingholmes, when to spend is as important as when not to.If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them
