Hello Ladies,
Welcome back Purple PixieI am sorry to hear of your ongoing battle with Arthritis. Good news about the condition of your hands though.
My son decided not to return to his Urbanest accommodation for the rest of his summer break from University.I am so pleased to have him at home for a few more weeks as he is not due to return to university until September.
My gas meter had a battery fail yesterday, so we were without gas for a few hours until the emergency gas engineer visited my home. I was relieved when I phoned my gas supplier and they agreed that having no gas was an emergency. Luckily there were meals suitable for heating in the microwave for our dinner.

Sorry to hear you've been unwell pixie but good to hear from you all the same. Lucky you getting your hair done.
Absolutely no sign of getting a dental check up here. Our dentist has reopened but for just a very few appointments a day ( to allow time for cleaning between patients) and is rightly dealing with emergencies and people in pain before any other procedures. I'm feeling a bit cross that we've paid for coming up to 5 months of cover that we won't be getting. My reasoning is that when we do eventually get an appointment then we won't need another for 6 months (assuming no treatment follows) so there won't be extra to make up for the months missed. It would be irresponsible to give treatment just for the sake of it. It's a bit like hairdressers. It's busy now as they catch up on a backlog but people won't need to go again until their hair has grown so it'll soon settle down. They can't do extra cuts just to make up for the trade lost during lockdown/
It's the inconsistency and illogical nature of so much that's been really bugging me. How come it's OK to cut hair but not do eyebrows? I think I use the schools guidance as a benchmark and it's making me so cross that it's considered safe for 30 children to be in a class from September but we're told to observe social distancing of at least a metre, ideally two, everywhere else. I do understand the need to get the economy up and running but twisting the scientific advice to suit is patronising and doesn't make sense. I need more transparency.
Sorry to keep moaning about this sort of things. I'll shut up.
It's a much better day here today. I'm shopping later and I might make an effort and put some make up and a decent dress on.
I was thinking about your DDs first communion chanie. Would you normally have some sort of reception/party afterwards? I was thinking you could delay it and your DD could wear her dress all over again which she might like. I'm sure it'll be a special and memorable occasion whatever happens.
We've not ventured out to the pub/restaurant yet. It's our wedding anniversary next month and I thought I'd book a table for then by which time things will have settled down. Unfortunately its on a Thursday so we won't be using one of Rishi's vouchers!6 -
maman, you are so right about how illogical some of it seems. My DD is a teacher so in September she will have her own tutor group for registration, 30 children, and then up to 6 classes of 30 children during the day so it doesn't matter about the children being in bubbles if she is spending an hour at a time with 30 children and then moving on to another 30. Seems like madness to me when everywhere else has safety measures, masks, visors, perspex screens etc. I took some rubbish to the tip the other day, I had to book an appointment giving my car reg number, got there to find men in full PPE checking the car number plate and waving me in, they were no where near me and I had the windows up. I suppose it must make sense to someone.
You've made me think I'd love my eyebrows done, too painful to hold tweezers at the moment, it is fortunate that I'm not too hairy but a bit of a tidy up would be nice. Is there another way to do eyebrows, I've always used tweezers for the stray hairs.6 -
I usually have my eyebrows waxed and tinted pixie. I'd certainly recommend it when appointments are allowed. I think yo ca do home waxing but I wouldn't be brave enough to try.
My DD1 is a teacher too. She's currently with a bubble of 15 key worker and vulnerable children. She teaches 7 year olds so she'll be with the same children what feels like 24/7! The government obviously hasn't a clue how teaching works in the 21st century as they seem to think you can sit children in rows of separate desks, all facing the forwards with the teacher staying 2 metres away at the front of the class.6 -
I agree that the rules don't seem to make much sense.
I gave in and have ordered a few bits from Dorothy Perkins today. I prefer to use chazzers but I needed some basics. I got two maxi skirts, a shirt dress, teardrop earrings and a pair of sunglasses.
I have also ordered some lemon scented body lotion and a few blue t-shirts to wear in bed from Amazon. I had to buy hairdressing gowns for our haircuts next week as well.5 -
Hello Lovely Ladies.I'm back, refreshed, revitalised and raring to go. It wasn't "abroad" or even the coast but a few days away was just what we needed to pick us up a it, and relieve the monotony of lockdown. Just the ticket......I think we all feel better and motivated again. The weather wasn't great but no matter, it was lovely to just have a relaxing break and the cottage was the perfect cosy bolt hole. We didn't even bother to eat out or get takeaways. We ate like kings, took our own food and then did a stock up at the Sainsburys in Matlock.Thank you for all my birthday wishes.....on the actual day we went to Chatsworth (of course). The house was closed but we enjoyed a stroll round the grounds.....they looked lovely as usual. Never a family to miss a business opportunity they had opened all the restaurants and cafes, and had laid on extra catering facilities such as takeaway fish and chips stands, portaloos etc. Loads of sanitising stations so it was all very civilised as one might expect. That's what I love about visiting Chatsworth, everything is always extremely well organised, even down to parking Marshalls. You are made to feel welcome and well looked after.Apparently Matlock Bath did a roaring trade on Sunday. The bikers were out in full force, bless em. Most of them are pensioners these days. 😂🤣 And they are never any trouble. It's funny to see them though, all in their leathers and biking regalia. . We didn't go. Recently an old acquaintance of mine died - he was in his early 50s. He was well known and well loved in our city, he knew it's history inside out and often hosted pub quizzes or ghost walks. When he died the Matlock Bikers turned out for his funeral to accompany his hearse. It was quite a sight.Good to see you back Pixie.....sorry to hear about your arthritis. This damp weather doesn't help. Mines not great either. I have a consultation with my old Physio on Monday, she is now qualified as a chiropractioner too so I'm hoping she can click me back into place and sort me out because at the moment I feel like Quasimodo. I really don't mind missing my hair cuts and touch wood my teeth have been ok but oh boy have I missed massages and physio. Pain levels have been quite high this last few weeks and it does get wearying. It's nice to be home.......😁6

maman happy anniversary to you and your husband.I agree that some decisions about reopening have been strange. I don’t see why personal services salons couldn’t have opened with a combination of masks, visors and Perspex screens. But then they let pubs open and we all know how that’s going....
pixie sorry to read you are in pain. You could try waxing or an epi-stick on your eyebrows. Personally, I would be concerned with precision using these methods. Have you looked into adapted tweezers as I think you can get some different styles which may be more comfortable for you to hold. I get mine threaded for £3, so I’ve never attempted to do my own.
DDs communion would normally be during the Sunday mass and would have meant the whole family could attend. Now, it’s going to be a weekday evening with limited numbers. My priest is reluctant to push back the dates until the autumn because it would have a knock on effect for the next cohort. We just want to get it done, so are going ahead, ASAP.
The plan for today is to meet OH at the DIY store after work so that we can buy the stuff we need so I can get moving with the DIY. Whilst I have been keen to get started, i just couldn’t be bothered to get the DIY stuff which is buried at the bottom of the shed. I did it a few days ago and realised that we didn’t have much stuff, so we pretty much need EVERYTHING.4 -
Happy AnnIversary Maman. Have a lovely time, whatever you decide. Yes coming out of lockdown is rather confusing. So many guidelines to think about. You must all be sick of hearing me say this but I'm desperately needing a proper remedial deep tissue massage......I can understand things like dental treatment and facials being problematical, because they are very close and personal and I get gyms and swimming pools too, especially gyms.....all that sweat ugh....perfect petrie dishes in fact. I can't get acupuncture for my knee yet either but I can get my eyes tested.......and that's pretty close and personal isn't it.Shame about the communion services Chanie.5

maman I think when it is possible I will get them waxed, I quite like the idea of getting eyebrows and eyelashes dyed, I have quite long eyelashes but you wouldn't know if I didn't have mascara on as like many redheads I have very fair eyelashes. Having visible lashes without mascara sounds good to me.
chanie thanks for that, I think I might have a look at adapted tweezers, I can't be unique so there might be something. I hope the Communion goes well. My DD had hers a year early as we were planning to move and she really wanted "our" priest to do it, on the day there was another priest assisting him and she had a panic but fortunately she was in the group with "our" priest. She would have been devastated if it hadn't been him.
Helensbiggestfan glad you had a nice time, I live on the coast so we can have time on the beach but a change of scene is something else.
Wednesday I hope your charity shops are open soon for you and the charities, I'm sure they must be struggling.
That's it I'm off, had my limit for now and hands starting to hurt.6 -
Welcome back Pixie, sorry to learn of your arthritis. Happy Anniversary Maman. Glad to hear you had a lovely break LL.I've noticed the skin around my finger nails is really dry and flaky,my Daughter thinks its the hand gel, because it has alcohol in its probably drying them out.I too dye my own eye brows, I buy the kits for about £6. lasts a good few applications too.6
