Everyones holiday plans sound great. Weather poor here, very wet so pleased that it looks nicer where you are going LL! Sad day for me yesterday. 1 year since I lost Mick. My family came. They prepared the most beautiful tapas type spread, the table was done beautiful and they had travelled to a posh bakery for macaroons and posh cakes etc. I was inundated with messages and flowers. The girls presented me with a lovely wooden memory box . I was glad that we were all together. I havent seen my eldest Daughter, son in law and Grandson since february

shelia the good looked absoulutely lovely. Loss at anytime can be very difficult but the isloatation of the pandemic has made it worse for people. It is great that you could have family together now.
The hairdressers all opened about 3 weeks ago here with the beauticans. Facials with a face sheild. It is still too early for me. A majority of hairdressers rose the prices about 20 to 40 euro. Seriously needing to bring the guts of 200 if someone wants a colour, cut and style. It is putting a lot of people off going back soon. Nails went up about 15 euro. It is a lot and honestly the diy products are not so bad. People are getting a bit more careful. You need a mask for the hairdressers to get hair done - of course the hairdresser wears one too.

Shelia, I hope that you are able to cope with your grief.
Your garden looks fabulous. It must get a lot of use, when weather permits. The food looks great. Family is everything that is important in life. Yours did you proud.5 -
I have not heard from my hairdresser yet, but cannot go until early August at best anyway. My Osteopath's clinic is opening mid month and has advised some fairly steep price increases, but I expect no different, they cannot be expected to absorb the costs of PPE, sanitising between every person and the fact that only every other appointment slot will be able to be utilised.
I had been thinking of having a change of hairstyle to something much shorter (chin length graduated bob pre lock-down) to keep that sort of style looking good on my wayward fine hair would mean 6 weekly appointments, but in the light of increased costs and the possibility of further lock downs for those of us that are shielding, I think that I will go for a plain all one length bob that will look better and be easier to manage with longer gaps between cuts.
Wishing LL a very good holiday with her family in beautiful rural Derbyshire.
Sheila, your family did you and your dear OH proud, family is all in this situation.xThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)5 -
hello lovely ladies.Arrived safe and sound, the cottage is gorgeous, beautifully situated and sumptuously furnished. Underfloor heating and a wood burner for if it gets cold. We are going to be very comfortable. I'll send some photos later. Some fabulous decorating flourishes which I might have to copy. 😆DIL & GS currently having a nap, DS has just watched Derby county & Nottingham Forest play and draw 1-1. So he's happy enough.Sheila. Sending you hugs and my best wishes. That first anniversary is the hardest but your lovely family did your husband proud, it's true isn't it....family is everything, especially now. So good that you all drew close and comforted each other. And what a feast in his memory. 🥂Your garden looks lovely, I'm sure you will spend many happy hours there.Interesting about the rising costs of getting our hair done. I guess it's inevitable. Mine is almost a one length bob now and hopefully I'm over the worst of the messy growing out stage. I'm tempted to keep going to see if I can actually get some length, just make do with the occasional trim to keep decent shape.
A Tale of Two Women......
This is not meant to sound unkind, it's just something that really struck me this last couple of days. It concerns two TV celebs of a similar age and the astonishing difference In the way they have aged.To my knowledge neither have had plastic surgery.Watched a programme about Lorraine Kelly. She was always pretty but never what you might call a beauty, just a lovely wholesome "Girl Next Door". She looks better now than she did in the 80s. 😂Polished, glossy, always nicely dressed and always looks very attractive. Yes she's curvy but she always looks good. The other is the TV historian Bettany Hughes. In her heyday she was a stunner, really beautiful. I was wildly jealous. 🤣. Watched her the other night and couldn't believe my eyes. She looked so frumpy. Such a shame. It just goes to show.....it's not always about what Mother Nature has given us.....it's what we do with what we are given. And even those who are the most blessed in the looks department still have to make an effort.7 -
What a lovely family you have Sheila. They really pulled out all the stops to make sure you were surrounded by love yesterday. That's brilliant.
I must comment on your garden and all that delicious food. Those photos wouldn't look out of place in Homes & Gardens. Very elegant.
Glad you've settled in well and are pleased with your accommodation LL. Trust you to be picking up home décor tips! Goodness knows what you'll want to copy from the grounds of Chatsworth!
I can't say I know much about Bettany Hughes but I think Lorraine Kelly benefits from her 'roundness'. I know she works hard to keep her weight in check because she's done lots of exercise videos and often talked about it. It reminds me of DH who once commented (jokingly but somewhat tactlessly) to some nurses buying loads of chocolate in a hospital shop that he liked their idea of healthy eating. They replied, to the effect, that having a plump face kept the wrinkles at bay! It's a fine line (excuse the pun) between being slim and looking haggard. I know that if I fall below a certain weight it starts to show on my neck. We never lose weight in the places we want!
I do think Lorraine Kelly is smart though, certainly not frumpy, although her clothes aren't really to my personal taste.
I don't know if anyone watched he last programme in that makeover programme (You are what you wear) the other evening. I've enjoyed that provided I keep my finger on the fast forward button and skip to all the clothes. I liked the tall, slim stylist both for her own dress sense and the suggestions she made for others. Her own outfit was very much like my Zara maxi dress and I loved all the outfits she chose last week for the young girl who wanted to look confident and professional for her new job. Sorry Wednesday but jumpsuits featured heavily n the whole programme.
I have a hair appointment at last but not until 20th July. I know my stylist has been trying to move house for months and it's happening now so she's not going back to work until that date. Timing's poor but it was on hold through lockdown and she was desperate to move so I can sympathise. I think what lockdown has proved, like for many of us, is that I can let my hair go for longer between cuts and I'm no longer afraid to trim my own fringe!
It's dull and a bit damp here today so no plans to join the hordes in a beer garden. It'll be interesting to see how quickly people return to the hospitality industry. I imagine the government is pleased that today didn't coincide with good weather.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I don't think I could put photos on here on my own! LL, the cottage sounds lovely, enjoy your stay. I too think that Lorraine always looks lovely. I cannot get in the hairdressers for my cut /2 colours until 25/7 , my bob's grown out but everyone is liking the longer look on me, its so much easier, I may just get it trimmed and have colours done when I go.
