  • the 2.0 is an odd engine and I don't think anyone really wants it. It has a princely power of 110bhp, the 1.6 engine of the same vintage does 105bhp. I don't know how the engine is so much bigger and delivers such little performance increase.

The 2.0 engine is used in beetle.

I wonder why they produced that engine and could it be retrofitted with a turbo and turned into a hot hatch.
I thought the 2.0 GTI had 115bhp? I tend to be wrong though so probably am once again.

Still, 5bhp, neither here nor there. I remember looking in to them a good few years ago for a potential option. The moment i saw they were not quick or nippy in the slightest & also weren't the cheapest on the road tax as well as MPG returns that weren't impressive i knocked that idea on the head immediately.

I can accept disappointing MPG & costly road tax ... if the car is quick, which this is not.

Ah yes because responding has to mean someone cares right?

Nice to know you care so deeply about my posts then :) I'm touched.

Pollycat, mollycat. Same thing. I wasn't scrolling back.
:rotfl:I will assume from that then that you do wish to keep hearing from me. Again, i'm touched.:o

I have no axe to grind. Like Shaun, I just think you are making the issue bigger than it needs to be.

This car cost me about 13.5k when I bought it 'new' with 6 miles on it. considerably less I suspect than if i bought from a uk main dealer. Also I wasn't even expecting some of the extras so I don't feel bad about the purchase. It's served me well, been looked after, not had any serious issues, no crashes (probably jinxed it now), and is still running well and looks in good condition. I think I got my money's worth out of it. My original post was because I'm thinking of buying another new car and was querying what I might get.
    Thanks all 👍👍

Ah, now that's a different question...

Whatever PX figure you can talk the dealer into - which'll largely depend on how badly he's stiffing you on the price of the car you're buying...

I have no idea why they produced that engine. Probably one of the worst VW ever made.

No point putting a turbo on an 8 valve engine when you can just buy a 1.8T 20valve to begin with.

See my post was actually in response to the seatbelt guy where he made a comment about the bhp. I thought differently but i'm probably wrong.

You can't really replace reliability. It's why i still hold on to my car. 11 years ownership, i'm kinda bored, i'd like something different, the tax is a bit high (£300 the last time i paid), the fuel economy isn't terrible but since i moved i'd prefer better as it's now costing me more, the performance isn't awful though now that i'm used to it i'd just call it 'nippy' (0-60 in 8.5, according to the official figures, reasonable pick up in 3rd gear) and not quick.
But it runs. In 11 years aside from the standard stuff like tyres and brakes it's only cost me an ECU. It's why i'm not jumping at the chance to replace it.

So i understand your attachment. Still, my response wasn't at you which is why i quoted someone else.

    Happy birthday though.

Yeah that post of yours as well as similar from others, it reminds me of something.

Keep going like that and your doctor will increase you prescription of anti high blood pressure tablets. Seriously stop reacting. Especially when you are over-reacting.

What's really amusing is that JAS assumes it's all a conspiracy - while the truth is that I rarely take the slightest notice of other poster's names, to the point that "pollycat" doesn't even ring a faint bell of recognition...

There's only a small handful who really stand out. Rarely for the right reasons.
