That is an odd arrangement. I think the usual is a single 90 degree bend behind the loo, not two as he has done it. The single 90 degree is pointed sideways, and the pipe is connected to that. Done like that, it could have started significantly lower and still passed over whatever obstructions there are.

Trying to explain all this to a judge, though? Good luck with that.
Yes I know. I would hope a judge would just look at normal parameters for wc and see clearly it's too high. There was no discussion from builder with me advising it would be higher an normal.
    Ta..

Out of interest, how keen would you be to take on this job? Would you give a fixed price quote without even seeing what's behind the tiling?

I would have given a quote on all works except the toilet. For that I would have given an estimate and then if there are any additional costs, I would have made the customer aware at the time. (with additional costs in writing).

What I meant was how keen would you be to take on the rectification work?

My concern is that trying to get someone in to expose what’s been done and correct it could be very expensive. Whilst the OP hopes to recover the cost from his builder, that’s a rather uncertain course.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I am always hesitant to take on other builders incomplete / rectification works. There is always a back story which you are never made aware of.

But my hesitation is more about the politics not because of the extent of the work. Because the client has had a bad experience, they are often wary of other contractors, so it is a difficult relationship from the start. Rectification work always costs a lot more than the original install, which clients often struggle with.

No back story as such. The room was a blank slate. I had gutted it entirely apart from basin and loo. He installed the false low wall and all plumbing etc. Someone else did the tiling.
I jus want to get this rectified then try to claim back something from him.
Yes will be a struggle I think to find someone. This guy was recommended!
    Anyway onwards and upwards...
  • To the idea of a step, creating one would also be costly and more than that a hazard for tripping over.

Agreed. After having a bathroom professionally installed, the last thing you want is a manky old step up made out of bits of packing crate to rectify someone elses c99k up!!

If have to go down the step path , could build a wooden box and tile over to matching tiles .....

Thanks, but the tiles are rather large, and a small step would look odd. Think I'm gonna make a legal thing of it...
