BT Openreach own and maintain the local loop, but your line rental contract will be with Voda.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Beginning of January I ordered Vodafone broadband and line rental for installation on 1st March to change over from BT.
I received the router 10 days before connection but no other communication after, so on checking the day before connection I found that the order had not been processed fully. The only term Vodafone would use in defence was the information had been ' redacted ' , utter rubbish !
They said that they would have to reset the order and that
it would be another 10 days before connection. Meanwhile, my BT contract expired and the charges shot up, so I cancelled Vodafone, told them to collect their router and I negotiated a new contract with BT. There are a lot of negative reviews about Vodafone that I should have read beforehand.

If I as sign to sign up, would Vodafone arrange to install a new line and as the lines are owed by BT (am I right?) . Would I be entering a contract with BT also? I hope this makes sense.

Vodafone aren't always capable of handling straightforward transfers to a new provider. Customer service is appalling -- 2 hours to wait to speak to someone on the phone, being transferred between a dozen departments as all anyone knows is "that's not my job".

I dread to think what it would be like trying to get them to install a new line.

I did the same. Had to get BT to use the "line slamming fraud" procedure to forcefully take back the line from Vodafone (because no one at Vodafone can help customers with anything).

Did they come and collect their router? I still have mine six months later. I don't know whether to dispose of it, or charge Vodafone for storage.
  • I also read bad reviews about Vodafone after my wife had already signed up from Sky, was starting to panic but We must be one of the lucky ones, line transferred when it said it did, the app is great and I actually get a much better speed than I did with Sky,

So i've been very impressed so far,.. just wanted to balance out the views as people usually only post to complain,

To be honest I did not want to give Vodafone any excuse to take payment from my direct debit, so I requested a returns envelope from them and duly returned the router. I've not had any further contact from them. I'm not surprised that they haven't requested you to return the router. I don't think they are in full control of their business.

I'm glad you got a hassle free experience with Vodafone, and yes you are right about mostly complaints being shared. I always said that if you do a good job in business ,people will tell their friends. But if you do a bad job they will tell the world.
I have to admit that BT have been great over the past 2 years by giving exceptional attention to my meagre contract. In the past I always thought of them as being too big and powerful. Although, you have to be selective with the options they provide if you want to keep the costs down.

I asked them to arrange a return of the router if they wanted it back, but heard nothing.

I was worried about them trying to bill me because I wasn't able to contact anyone at Vodafone an had to get BT to take over the line, so I cancelled my Direct Debit and contacted my bank to ask them to refuse any future charges from them.

I guess I can throw it away now. *shrug*
