I still have my paper version - are you saying that I do not need to renew my photocard version ?
The letter implies that I could face a £1000 fine, if I do not renew the photocard ...
That’s a different paper version I’d suggest. The old paper licences are still valid if you haven’t moved address or changed your name. I had mine for many years after photo cards came in until it got lost / stolen.
The original photo cards had a backup paper with more information, which I presume is what you have. The paper was discontinued with all the information now held electronically and it is of no relevance now at all, whether you do or don’t still have it.0 -

No - that's my original paper licence and it is the same address and details as my, soon to expire plastic card version !0 -
I'm fairly sure that you invalidated your original green licence when you got the photocard version, as it is counted as a replacement.
Once you get a photocard you can't go back, and have to pay the fee every 10 years.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Yes absolutely nothing wrong with it, although you have to stick it back together with sellotape after a while. It all sounds very practical and professional looking. Maybe they could bring it back after Brexit, something else for the rest of Europe to laugh at us about :cool:One man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0 -

I do have an original green paper driving licence with associated plastic card !
I passed my driving test (first attempt) in 1981 and was issued with a paper licence at the time - moved house in 1999 and was sent a replacement paper licence - this is the same one as I still have
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/driving-licence-changes
says :
If you have a paper driving licence
Paper driving licences issued before 31 March 2000 are still valid. Do not destroy your licence.0 -

Lets try again.
paper licence is the original licence with no photocard.
The original photocard licence also had an accompanying paper licence but bot parts were required.
Now licences are photocard only.0 -

If you have an old style paper driving licence it would have been valid until you updated to a photo card licence (or it expired).
If you now have a photo card licence, it replaces the paper licence which is no longer valid or of any use, only the photo card one will be, and the photo needs updating every ten years.0 -

Any link to prove this fact ?
According to DVLA - My pre - 31 March 2000 issued paper licence is still valid - no mention of any need to replace once issued with a plastic card !0
