Virgin Money Current Account

Thanks for this - I’m still waiting for mine since a completed switch (and other criteria) on the 18th so I’ll call them.Bobblehat said:Someone earlier in this long thread mentioned that anyone who had to apply for the current account switch and wine offer manually (instead of online), might have to apply for the wine voucher code manually too. In my case this proved correct, I had completed the switch on 23rd December and fulfilled the other criteria by 24th and had not seen any code by 4th January.
I decided to check how I would be notified of the code by phoning Virgin's CS on 4th Jan. According to the CS person, it is correct that you do need to ask, as the "system" is not automatic if the original application was handled by phone. CS sent the necessary email to Virgin Wines and today I got 2 identical emails with the same wine voucher code. Pretty good speed from Virgin Wines, as I assume they have to check that all the criteria is met before issuing the code.
Needless to say I have not attempted to try to wheedle a case of wine from each email as the codes were the same

Still no response from them since ID docs sent on the 26 November.0

This morning I accidentally discovered this 2.02% + 0.50% (current + savings) being offered Virgin this morning. It gives me the prefect excuse to leave TSB and Tesco who have now stopped paying interest. While the interest I am going to earn will be less than £5/month (for me), it's better than nothing in this current climate. Once I receive my debit card, I will flush my TSB and Tesco accounts into Virgin and proceed to close those accounts.I have to admit, I don't think these interest rates are going to last very long, but it's the most suitable that I've seen for myself in some time.

Afraid to say, you are fairly late to the party, as Virgin have been offering this account since last May. You also seem to have missed out on multiple switch offers which we saw at the end of last year (Halifax, Natwest, RBS, Ulster), all paying a lot more in switch offer money than you could make in interest from a current account these days. As you don't mention the Virgin switch offer, I fear you have also missed out on the Virgin wine. Not much you can do about the past now but going forward, you might want to visit this board more often, as all the good deals are mentioned here. My recommendation would be to keep your TSB and Tesco account (with minimum or no balance), in the hope that you can use them for further switch offers which will hopefully appear in the next few months.poppellerant said:This morning I accidentally discovered this 2.02% + 0.50% (current + savings) being offered Virgin this morning. I don't want to mess around with my direct debits and standing orders to keep to these conditions.Just as much as I don't want a case of wine, as it'd be wasted on me. I already knew that I'd be missing out on the plonk before signing up, but I was far more interested in the minute interest rate payback - that should tell you what I think about wine!0 -
No worries. It's not compulsory to take part in the account switch, and/or the £5/mth/account, and/or other profitable accounts bonanzapoppellerant said:colsten said:

It's still worth it (for us) to keep 1 Tesco account but only if you shop at Tesco for your groceries. Tip your Tesco debit card can act as your clubcard but also scanning your Clubcard too gives you the points too. We spent £94 recently so got 94 points for using the debit card and 94 when you scan the CC too. We have 2 Tesco mobile contracts too, so it adds the points for them too.
Ok if you don't shop Tesco switch the account but we make it work for us.0 -
Is anyone else having any luck appying at present? I have filled in the first page (name / contact details) but when I press "continue" it just spins a virgin "m" animation saying "submitting" and then nothing happens when it should move on to the next of 3 pages.
I've tried from a PC (using edge and chrome) from my mobile phone and all do exactly the same thing, both last night and this morning.
• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.0 -
No problem just now, online or the app!vacheron said:Is anyone else having any luck appying at present? Also, free case of wine arrived this morning ... 2 days after ordering .... pretty good service from Virgin Wines.Compiler of the RS League Table.

Hi guys, am I able to open the account so I can get the interest of 2.02% but without switching (I don’t need the wine anyways)? Thank you.1
