I transferred my current account to virgin from tsb, mainly because tsb stopped paying me interest on the balance. virgin give me 2.2% on the 1st 1k. and I've also got a case of wine on its way. so for me is actually a no brainer. the savings account is handy. I shall probably leave 2k in there as an emergency fund. job done.
As long as your emergency is a couple of hundred pounds you will be ok.
Try to withdraw more than this and your account will be locked.

I’ve just moved £4000 out to somewhere else and it went through straight away.
    Then you've been lucky.
I'm still waiting for my money from 10 days ago.
Account locked, no call backs, nothing.
And going by the reviews on Trust Pilot this happens a lot.
Have you logged a formal complaint (not just speaking to Customer Services) about both the locking of the accounts and the subsequent lack of callbacks?

Even better if you can get them logged as two separate ones as it will form part of their FCA reporting and hopefully encourage them to sort it out and settle with you within three days.

I've logged 2 complaints now and even emailed David Duffy the CEO.
I just get the same response -

"I am sorry for the problems you have experienced recently. Please be assured, we are in the process of investigating this matter for you and we will be in touch as soon as we have an update.

In the meantime, if you need anything, please do not hesitate to contact me."

As been said many times, this is he problem with you have money with mickey mouse banks. Would never risk a large amount with these lot. Their infrastructure and customer service is so bad. Stick to the main stream banks for big money, at least they will keep you in the loop and deal with your issues, whether you like the outcome or not.

I would take him up on his offer, e.g.: "Dear Mr. Duffy, I am very appreciative of your offer and would indeed ask for your help. Could you please urgently transfer £x,xxx.xx into my account xyz? You will notice that this is the same amount as my funds that you have been withholding from me without explanation for xx days. I require this money to buy food for my family / pay for existing DDs / prevent me from going overdrawn etc etc etc"

Maybe add on the bottom that you will be contacting the Daily Mail / Telegraph / Guardian (delete depending on your preference) in x days if they don’t get back to you.....

Clydesdale Bank, Virgin Money and Yorkshire Bank aren't mainstream banks?

Clydesdale Bank even issues Pound Sterling Banknotes.

Hello. How long does it take for the reward wine to arrive? I got the voucher code on 17 Dec and ordered the wine the same day. I didn't receive any email confirmation of the order though.

Ordered on evening of 16th Dec, received wine 21st Dec.
Delivered by DPD, only notification was on morning of delivery.

So an update for anyone who's interested.
Got a call from the fraud team this morning and after going through security they informed me that my account was now unlocked. Great !
However on checking after a few hours they have STILL not released my payment which I requested on 19th December and which was the start of this fiasco.
Now I daren't try and do the transfer again in case the same thing happens, and I don't trust anybody in the call centre or live chat to have a clue, so I'm guessing the easiest way is to transfer a few hundred pounds a day for the next week or so.

Transferring £100 per day might not be wise. I transferred £100 from Lloyds to my new VM account then tried to transfer £400 an hour later, account locked by Lloyds. Apparently Lloyds smelt some unusual behaviour. It took two phone calls to convince them it was legit by me. I think it was also the fact that it was a new account that had only been set up the day before, anyways who knows what they thinks going on?
