Refurb isn't second hand in the sense she may be thinking of.
Some are ones that have been returned for whatever reason (Chang of mind, etc) but are new/unused in pretty much every other respect. They come with the same length warranty.
Mine is an Argos refurb off eBay that's been gong strong for years. It's a way to get a better laptop at a cheaper price point.

A lot of refurbs are returned faulty damaged goods that are repaired then sold again.

You CANNOT get a new laptop that is good for £200.


Anything you buy for anywhere near that price range is going to be horrible to use.
The screen will be dim and low res, the usage will be frustrating to the point of not wanting to use it due to the time it takes for it to do anything.

Educate her? Tell her that she can't get what she wants for the price she's prepared to pay, so something will need to be flexible.

Yes, educate her .


If that is the price range then you need to look at business refurb.


That way, you get the benefit of a good solid machine, with great spec , that was probly around the £1000 mark when it was new and functions the same way it did when it was new.

Mine had the full 12 months you would get with a new laptop. Looking at the ebay argos store, all the refurbs have a 12 month guarantee.

To be fair a £200 laptop would do all OP asks.


But it would be painful to anyone that has ever used a decent machine.


A £200 laptop is also very likely to be a windows tabl;et with a bigger screen and a keyboard really.


(are any of those even running 64 bit windows yet, I have an 8 inch tablet from yonks ago and it was on 32 bit, and should be given the specs! I guess it depends if the specs have been rasied (by MS for cheap machines with hardly any licencing fees). Of course mine was win 8 but updated to 10, but was a pain to get there and started being impossible to ruin the update a few win 10s back).


To get a decent new laptop you are looking at £400,and even at that price point there is a lot of rubbish around, so you need to know what you are doing.
