Jami, no need to be jealous. Our ability to save has been the commulation of years of financial discipline. I am 66 next month and I am fortunate to have my state pension, occupational pension and still do 2 days a week work. My wife turned 60 last month and still works full time. We don't have teens! Or pet's. We have no debt or mortgage so it would be shocking if we weren't saving money for our old age. If you get the basics right then eventually you will be in a good position to make savings and secure your finances.
Thank-you Mnd. I should have used the word awe instead of jealous. I am trying to learn as much as I can as quick as I can to hopefully pass on the right sort of knowledge, attitudes and habits to my kids.

    Happy Easter everyone,

#51 pleased to report a positive figure for April of £570.92 so this means i'm now only -£155.85 since the start of 2020. I'm hoping this turns continues in the right direction and will be reporting above a minus figure for May, fingers crossed. Much happiness, health and wealth to everyone in these difficult days x

    Good afternoon everyone.
    Reporting for April. £4876.00
This is made up of dividends, salary and interest. Being at home has also helped.
Have passed this years target. Not going to change target as the remaining months will be a more modest amount.
Oh well done! an least one of us is meeting the target this year! LOL

  • Hi everyone! I am completely new to this, but came across this thread whilst searching online for saving tips etc. I am an absolute bargain hunter, shop around for everything, use cashback sites and rewards where possible so I'm really interested to see how others do this also! I've submitted my first month of March as £1300 and looking to save 15k by the end of the year for a house deposit!

Never too late to join but you will both need to put in a form. If you read back you will find a variety of approaches that people take to their saving (and spending - and whether spending is deducted from totals or not) - you can just decide on your approach with what best suits you. My favourite thing is Tilly tidying (named after Tilly, years ago on here) - where you round down your account to the nearest £0 (or £00, £000) and squirrel away the rounded bits into your savings total. Mine get pulled together into an instant saver until they reach a certain point and then they pay down my mortgage. Good luck!
    Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far
