Bd, huge congrats on your journey.
You've made massive progress in terms of money paid off and still more attitude.
Difficult re friend. They did help at a critical moment and while that doesn't mean you should pay more than you owe, it would be a shame to upset such a fab friend. Could you say that to help motivate yourself, you're doing an updated spreadsheet showing when all debt will be paid off and would they mind checking? Only you know whether that will work.

Thanks for the support, much appreciated!
Small victory being celebrated, slightly earlier than normal payday today so paid my "fiend loan" a further £300 so I am now 90% of the way there (based on my original workings) really feels good to know there isnt much further to go on that one and could be even less!
When I messaged them this morning to say that I had transferred the money over I did ask if they could get an update on that particular transaction as I wanted to make sure my calculations were correct and that I wasn't underpaying them.........I felt that may be the best way to phrase it? (Hope it was!)
The rest of my payments go out on the 26th so can't update the smaller loan at the moment but have no doubt that when that goes next week I'll enjoy having another "yipee!" moment.
Celebrate the small steps everyone, take the debt busting journey for what it is, a journey which will be filled with milestones, pot holes and speed bumps but no matter what keep putting one foot in front of the other..........we'll get there eventually as a lot of people have showed!
Enjoy your Friday everyone :j3 -
All sounds great, and think you worded your text to your friend right. They did you a massive favor and showed what a great friend they are, so definitely tread carefully. However, i do not think anyone would mind you checking the payments, i think its quite a reasonable thing to ask!My debt free journey, diary and all! New Life Pending :beer:2

Thanks, don't think they will be offended by it although not heard back yet............2 -
So just a small update from me, more because I feel like I need to get it off my chest.
So I asked my friend if they could get a breakdown of the transaction of them paying off my guarantor loan from their credit card company as when I worked out the cost based on adding the interest on the outstanding amount monthly (as it says that credit cards do.......) I worked out that January should be my final payment. When I asked I did say that I had a final amount due for February of £369 but that was based on me putting interest on the total amount at the beginning. They have come back today and said that February would be the final payment but it would be £362 not £369 (so in fairness still a saving of £7) but they haven't sent me any evidence.
I know they have been super helpful and really got me out of a horrible situation but now that I'm tracking everything I would really prefer to see something that shows what their credit card company has said just for my own piece of mind. I know I can't go and ask them for it as that would really then come across as I didnt trust them but it's just bugging me a bit.
Not that I plan to ever be in that prediciment again but if I did, or if someone finds themselves in that position, my advice would be to come to a more structured agreement. I would definately have asked to see a copy of their statement every few month so I could see it going down and then I wouldn't be in this position where I think I should be paying less and wouldn't feel like I couldn't ask for a copy of their correspondance for this particular issue.
As it is the only thing I can do it put it down to experience and move on, they were amazing to help me so if I end up paying a bit more off their credit card which I am not really responsible for then I'm going to mark it as a big thank you to them and get over it.
This journey is all about learning and changing mindsets so I have to accept and flip the way I think of it. I'm still only 2 payments away from paying them off fully and that will be 14 months after they paid it and for it being over £6k to start that is quite an acheivement so while it's not going into my "yipee" pot it's not going in the "noooooooo" pot either.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend/hope you had a good weekend to any readers, onwards and upwards........3 -
Well it's finally here, Christmas.
Now I'm not a big fan of it but always feel like I should be giving people more than I have and that is especially true this year when I set myself a budget and I have stuck to it. Spent a lot of yesterday and some of this morning thinking "oh perhaps I should get x something else as well quickly" but I am keeping control of that urge. The people I buy for will be appreciative of what they have no matter what.
I will be so much better when it's all over (sorry to all the christmas fans but I am a grinch haha) and I dont know whether its just wishful thinking but I'm sure I've noticed a difference in the nights being a little bit lighter already........
Hope everyone has the few days that they hope for over this period, remember it is only a day or two please don't stress yourselves out.2 -
You are so right and glad you did not give into the urge to say to hell with the budget and shop again. I enjoy Christmas and having the family together but we have agreed to keep present buying to a minimum except for the grandchildren. So much stress for just a few days.
I like January and the new start to the year and as you say the days getting a little longer. You have done so well to have almost paid off your friends loan and even better resolved not to be in that situation again. Thank you, luckily knowing I want to report in here keeps me on track, I've seen many sucess stories and I want to be one.
Luckily I wont have to go all clich!d and say new year new me ..........my changes started a few months ago and the determination is there to stick to it! I do like the new year though and will be waiting for all the daffodils and lambs to start appearing which will have me skipping around and feeling more positive about everything:j
Enjoy the time with your family and happy christmas too!3 -
Good morning all, I hope you've had the days you were hoping for:)
For me it's back to work today which I am happy about, I would much rather take my holidays when the weather is better and I can get out and do stuff.
All my loan repayments have come out so I can see my total going down, slowly slowly because of the agreed payments I have but it is going down so I'm happy with that. Going into the "yipee" pot though is the fact that I was able to cash out £10 on PA again and that got sent over to the current loan I am tackling which means I have overpaid by £22.16 this month leaving just £30 to go! Hoping I can get another £10 from extra stuff this month which will mean that with the standard payment I can clear it 2 months earlier than originally anticipated.............
Having eaten waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy to much chocolate over the last two days, in the theme I am following of not putting things off till the new year just to make a fresh start, the old trainers will be making a come back tonight and the couch25k app is reinstalled ............I'm thinking at least it will be dark while I pant my way around the streets and no one will be able to see what a sweaty mess I am :rotfl:(plus it's a free activity).
Enjoy your day all which ever way you are spending it!2 -
