A lot of the people i stalk (in a nice way!) on here make reference to NSD's and that they've been able to make small overpayments onto a debt. Wow i thought, these people are disaplined and putting in the extra work, i wish i could be like them......

today i am so happy to say i have joined the ranks "yippe"! Today is an official NSD as there is nothing i NEED to buy, the WANT part of me has been locked into a box and is not allowed out at all today. I absolutely will not be spending a penny today.

i have also, due to the joy that is PA (fun, interesting things to do and earn some pennies, ideal) and cashing out my little earnings from there, made an over payment to the current focus loan to the sum of £12.16 bringing the outstanding amount to £60 which means it will be paid off a month earlier than planned. Obviously my aim is to get it done sooner.

so thank you to everyone who's diaries have inspired me and anyone who has taken the time to comment with advice or just cheering me on. It really is appreciated and i hope that anyone who may need it can take some comfort from my diary and it will help them in some way.

    heres to another "yippe" day

So decided to do some proper calculation this morning on when my debts would be paid off , wasn’t sure if it was going to help or depress me but felt this I needed to have a proper timeline to work to.

I did a rough one back in November when I was still doing a bit of guessing how much I was actually allocating to debt repayment and that gave me a DFD of Oct 2023........seemed a long way to go. So this morning I redid with what I knew I was currently paying up until March (which is when my "fiend" loan will be paid and I will be freeing up £300 per month), if I keep the loans repayments as they are until they will all be settled (Nov 2020) but increase the old credit card payment by £100 and then by a further £145 (what I am currently repaying to all the loans each month) I will now be debt free by May 2023.

Now all this takes into account that my wage stays exactly the same and my outgoings don’t change, and doesn’t allow for any additional bonus's/overpayments etc. that I could chuck at them and while yeah it is 3 and half years away I can live with it. Ideally I’d like to be debt free by the time in 40 and that sits just outside that window so I have some work to do .........

When I’ve got an emergency fund up to £1k I’ll be able to free up some more money keep knocking it down but from the success stories I’ve read I think I need a max target to work to......that way I can only be elated if I come in before the max date and it will keep me on the straight and narrow (I think (hope))

back to finding more extra money making ventures for me for now, keep the chins up everyone you're all doing your best and persevering!
  • All sounds really positive, your posts really remind me of mine at the start of my journey. Are you feeling a lot more positive about the situation now you are in control of it all?

Well I hope that a good sign that my posts remind me of yours at the start and that I can have the same sucess!

Since I have really paid attention I feel so much better about it all, I know I'm not currently perfect with my spends but I have also got better each month since July so I feel like I'm going in the right direction.

Obviously time will tell but at the moment it's all positive thinking, continuing to pick up tips and hints and remembering the end is in sight (I may need binoculars to see it at the moment but it's there.....)

Talking of being in control this week I have now started to unsubscribe from all the emails and texts I receive offering small/short term loans .........that definately gives me more of a feeling of power over the situation knowing that I REFUSE to go that route again.

Spendy day tomorrow probably (however may offer to buy the first drinks and therefore cheapest round, as more people join the crowd they generally buy a round so could be less spendy than I anticipate.......a little sneaky I know) but not much needed in terms of shopping so hopefully nothing too bad.

Hope everyone is feeling good, this can be a very depressing time of year, but shortest day is coming so soon we will have ever lighter nights, spring will be coming and everything will seem much better.
  • I think you sound like you are in a really good place, and heading to an even better one! Good shout on the first round thing, sounds like a plan to me lol. Enjoy your evening!

Afternoon all, hope your having a good Monday.

Just to keep myself focused I wanted to do a quick post. My plan for Saturday worked, didn't manage to get the first round but did get away with the second one, and in a cheaper pub, so I got away with only spending £14 on 5 drinks "yipee"! Other drinks were had at a house party and then a free drink at the works do and I decided to be sensible and stopped drinking plus made the wise decision to go home early so taxi was cheaper as well.

Other than a couple of bottles of wine I have also finished the dreaded christmas shopping and should come in £40 under budget so I am super pleased with that.

I think knowing that I am holding myself accountable, with the help of all readers, has really helped me in this, there were times when i thought "oh I'll just grab that as well for someone ....." but I took a second and thought it through properly and decided that it wasnt needed. I know that everyone I buy for is like me and doesn't want a load of stuff just for the sake of it so that makes it easier too.

I hope everyone is not stressing about christmas and presents, anyone that actually matters will definately prefer a cheaper thoughtful present than somethig expensive just because you think you should spend a huge amount.

Keep up the good work everyone.

    Catch you all soon!

The key, I'm learning, to controlling your spending is to plan in advance and I have been trying to do that. The last few weeks I have toddled off to the shops list in hand feeling a little bit pleased with myself. Unfortunately I have discovered I have some work still to do.......

Just because you can see a packet/tub/packaging of an item in your fridge/cupboard does not mean you actually have some of said item. Having looked around on Monday I determined there was very little I needed and came back with all item on my list and a meal prep plan in place. This was quickly derailed when I realised that whilst there was a butter tub on my counter it actually only had about a tea spoon of butter in it........foil in the cupboard, check........until I go to wrap the bread for toast making in work and discover that there was actually on enough to go around the cardboard tube (some swift origami moves later I did manage to wrap the two pieces of bread in some shape ha-ha).

so this morning I had to pop into the shop to pick up more bits however I did only get what I needed with no sneaky little extras landing in the basket - phew!

People that have been on the journey awhile will have already realised that debt busting is more than just watching the numbers go down, its needing to change your mind set and attitudes towards "just popping into the shops" etc. anyone that’s not long started on the little cobbled path, I’m with you, it’s hard and there are lots of things to trip you up ...........just need to keep on getting back up and trying not to get too frustrated that the plan isn’t going exactly as you want it.

So today is definitely not a NSD but fingers crossed I'll get one tomorrow........

    Have fun everyone!

    Afternoon all

    I’m hoping someone can help/advise.......

So when my friend paid off my guarantor loan I didn’t pay much attention and worked out the repayments based on the amount they had lent me plus interest on the whole lot which is what gave the figure of £6589.39.

However now being a little bit more savvy with the way I’m thinking about money I actually checked up on how interest is applied on credit card balances and redone my workings using a 30 day "free" period at the start and paying off the bigger sum in July and this method would mean I could actually clear it in January (does depend on my workings being correct/there or there about).

My friend isn’t mathematically minded and just took what I said but now I could be saving myself around £300 if my new workings are correct, the issue is I don’t know whether to ask my friend if they can contact their credit card company and ask for a breakdown on that specific amount and the outstanding amount left on it. I don’t know if it may come across as I don’t trust them.........

Anyone have any sage advice for me?

In other news, NSD today "yippee"!
