New neighbours don't get the etiquette

  • God no! I'm not Timmy Mallet. I think I'd describe myself as artistic, but with bad taste. I'm the front door that is blue, but I can't just have a blue door, it also has to have clouds on it.
I own a lot of pairs of Doc Martens, even a pair on teenage mutant ninja turtle ones
The neighbours are older, I'm mid 30s. They're what I would consider self made, social climbers. I'm more of a came from wealthy stock, but pretend I'm not. I listen to an awful lot of Radio 4 and say cheerio when I'm saying goodbye. Clash of cultures. I'm in quite a wealthy area well, wealthy for the north and I'm a barmaid on minimum wage in a council house.
I think it was just her rudeness at the beginning, got my back up. If she had been more polite, I would be more than happy to accommodate her. However, she didn't seem to want to be reasonable so how can you expect anyone else to be.
Anyhoo, this has become quite a funny little thread, and whilst there hasn't been any real advice it has certainly made me aware there are a lot of people who really take parking seriously (this is not a bad thing, I just didn't realise it offended people so much). If I see her I will definitely have a chat, but if she's going to shout and bawl at me again then she'll just have to put up with my parking where she doesn't like it.

You sound like a truly horrendous human being. Congratulations!

Do you drive an "artistic" car ( in your eyes)? Have you painted it with clouds?

Is the real problem that the neighbour doesn't want to have to look at it out their front window, perhaps?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Yes and yes. And it's a big 'un. However, even if she didn't like it she could have been more polite and I would have moved it. She was rude, I don't like rude people. They bring out the mischievous nature in me.
I do intend to park on her driveway if it comes to it. It's not very nice but then neither was she.
Say she had said, "would you do me a favour and just park your car a bit further up as I'm not a very good Parker and I'm struggling a bit." I'd have said "fine"
She said "you can't park opposite my drive anymore!" and walked away. That's not the way to make people do what you want them to do.
I'm not a horrible person, in fact I'm very nice. If I spoke to anyone like she spoke to me I'd expect a slap and it would be deserved.
  • Just tow them out the way if they are blocking you from parking. I don't put up with neighbours blocking my drive.

Parking on their drive would then be trespassing. Not something I would advise unless you want all-out war.

You'd be liable for any damage to the vehicle if you illegally tow it.
  • They have a driveway for 2 cars.

Perhaps point out to her that:

    a. Car insurance is cheaper for drivers who park their car on a drive rather than the highway.

    and

    b. Car insurance may be null and void if the owner is stating they park on a drive when they don't.

Do you not think’s a little rude and ungrateful to all the people who have in fact given you advice? A lot of it very sensible advice?

Or is that part of being ‘quirky’?
