  • If your broadband is due for renewal, then Sky are(or were) offering a Sky HD+ box with recording enabled as long as you take up their broadband offer.

I am paying £58 per month now to Sky and simply cant go on paying this much. Who should I use? I watch tv a lot in winter as retired. I have a recorder box with sky. I also have a dvd player I have used only twice when friend read the instructions to get it going....so I am useless at techie stuff. How do I stop Sky save money but still have some tv to watch?

What are you paying £58 for? Entertainment and...? For £58 presumably Sport and HD?

If you want to stay with Sky you can always phone up and say its too much you want to leave but I'd rather stay with you, what can you do for me please? Check Virgin new customer deals too.

However if you decide to leave Sky the other options are Freeview which will probably cost you nothing hardware wise if you just want to watch and record nothing, but you can supplement this with another recorder. NowTV which is owned by Sky and comes down your internet connection, or there's Freesat (and Freesat from Sky if you have the older Sky+HD box).

We gave up sky 3 years ago and have never looked back - we have Now tv which there always seems to be a deal on (currently £1.60/month for entertainment for 3 months) and Netflix - more than enough to watch - we don’t bother with recording.
Sky came back to us after we left them after a few months with an offer to come back for £8 for the basic package but were not tempted - we were fed up with their silly games of going through cancellations/retention department to renegotiate the package every 12/18 months.

Where are you getting these kind of deals from?

    Who should I use?
What do you want to watch?
How much are you willing to pay?

You can have stacks of channels without paying any subscription with Freeview (aerial) and Freesat (sat dish).
If you go to YouView of Freeview Play (aerial) or FreeTime (sat dish), you will get catch up channels/apps too via internet.

moneysaver - now TV is perpetual 'deals'. I got the movie pass for £2.40 a month for 4 months in December, after paying £4.99 a month for 3 months, after paying £0 with a free pass. I've got sports for £20 a month for 3 months, after having their 10 months pass which I think was about £180. Once you've had the service and go to cancel, they very rarely don't offer you a discount, and even if you end up cancelling, you usually get a come back please email a couple of months later. I did once have entertainment pass for £5 for 3 months (£1.67 a month), but most of the channels are on my Virgin Tivo box now anyway.

    Thanks for the explanation.icon14.gif
  • The last 2 months I have bought cinema passes for £2.50 from Amazon.
So if you don't get a decent retention just cancel and buy a pass on Amazon or Ebay.
