Well done for cutting the cord but buying a Freesat box will be a waste of money - it is a dead end. Recording Live TV just gives you catch up again so if you already have good enough broadband speed then you already have everything you need (Now TV plus everything else on the Firestick).

Sky pays channels to encypt their data thereby denying Freesat access. For example, Channel 4 is not available in HD on Freesat any more because Sky pay them to encrypt it. As OTT (direct broadcast to apps) accelerates then channels will start to be pulled from satellite (although BBC, ITV, CH4 and CH5 will be required to stay). There is no guarantee that the HD variants will stay as they look to cut costs.

I would recommend you do catch up only over broadband and watch live TV via Freeview.
    Hi Gizmo,
I have a firestick and a nowtv stick, I have purchased at a very reduced price 3 months of both films and entertainment through the nowtv.
You can't catch up the Vintage Corrie unfortunately.
As for the freesat box, I have not yet bought it.
Sky are ringing constantly now I have purchased some nowtv stuff, fancy that eh?

Most films won't be on catch up due to licensing issues so a recordable box is most definitely not a 'dead end'.

Wrong! C4 HD is still Free To Air and unencrypted. It can be watched in non-freesat mode on any freesat device, and other satellite receivers.

Channel 4 have had a spat with freesat over their EPG charges for HD channels and so no longer appear on the freesat EPG.

Channel 4 are happy enough to pay the $ky EPG carriage fees, though, for the HD channel.
  • If your broadband is due for renewal, then Sky are(or were) offering a Sky HD+ box with recording enabled as long as you take up their broadband offer.

Where did you see this deal?

Ah, I was only going by the Freesat website - thanks for the correction. The OP was asking about ITV3 in particular - Is that perhaps also available in HD on a manual tune? If so, then Fresat recorder does best fit their needs - at least in the short term.

It was posted on here somewhere fairly recently by another poster. I have just tried to find it but annoyingly failed :(

Actually I don't think I've seen that but it looks like it, £26 for ADSL, an anytime calls package and a recordable Sky+ box for 18 months (3-year price guarantee?). Might suit some people.

No mention of the speed of it though....
I already went to Virgin for broadband anyway.
    Thanks for all the comments.
