Hi Jacks,
I saw the link to this thread in today's email and just wanted to say a huge congratulations!!
I've read through all of this thread and it has really inspired me. Currently we are living on just my husband's wage as I have had to leave my job after maternity leave as it wasn't going to work with paying childcare. We have a small amount of debt so I am going to sit down tonight after my darling monkey has gone to bed and work out some realistic targets to get it all paid off and to get some substansial savings started. Any pointers would be gratefully received!!
And once again...congratulations!!!!!0 -
I somehow totally missed your announcement, congratulations on getting there. I hope you've signed the Role of Honour! No longer using this account for new posts from 20130

Hello Jacks, i am also new to this forum and registered after Martin's email. I have read through your thread and can only add congratulations along with everyone else.
You are a total inspiration.
I also wanted to ask,( i hope you don't mind) a poster called boredofbeingathome brought up some questions in february ( sorry i don't know how to quote it) but i thought they were very funny and i noticed there was a gap of over a year from your post to that post. Did you just carry on regardless over that time?
I probably sound a bit muddled up about it. Thankyou.
And congratulations again.0 -
Congratulations Jacks! I saw your post in Martin's email and have occassionally stopped in to read your thread. It's such an inspiration to see someone become DF! It IS possible and it CAN be done! It's a great reminder to us all that there is light at the end of the tunnel and we can do it!Debt at highest 01/01/2008- $79,385.32
Debt now 01/03/2009 - $63,194.72

Thanks ever so much for the congratulations honey.
I'm still half expecting to slap my forehead Homer Simpson style and realise we've forgotten something, and we still owe somebody money.
Ask away if you want advice my lovely but my two top tips would be to make a plan... And then rather than just sticking to it rigidly, keep returning to it every couple of months and seeing if you could do things better . I found my mindset changed as I went along on my DFW journey and as I tried things out and worked out what MSE style worked for us.
and Get a little p/t job when your OH can handle the childcare. Even the small amount that you could earn doing afew hours on a saturday morning makes a huge difference over time. I paid off several hundred pounds worth of debt selling books on Amazon for £3 and £4 a time. Everytime I sold abook I made a little payment - it soon adds up! :j
Take care chick and let us know the plan!

Cheers my lovely!
I haven't posted on the Roll of honour yet cos there's a very real danger that we may have to backslide into the overdraft a little this month until the Jobseekers and Mortgage Protection Insurance and Income Protection Insurance pay out cos we literally handed over every penny to clear the last debt. (and I blew £20 on Yankee Candles in slightly premature celebration!)
I'd feel a bit of a fraud on the Honour roll whilst living in my overdraft.
As soon as I feel safe though I'll proudly post on there. That will be an amazing thing to be able to do. :j

 Aww Honey,I am sooooooo appallingly bad at keeping up a diary. I was definitely keeping at it but I found that by the time I'd knackered myself out doing debt busting stuff I usually didn't have the time or the energy to post about it - so my diary died a sad little neglected death. (I posted on Grocery Challenge and £20k
Plus I didn't know how to subscribe to posts for ages so I couldn't find my own diary if I hadn't posted for a while. (That would be quite funny if it wasn't so embarrassing!)
I think I remember BOB and ISOM trying to reanimate this thread a while back, but I was having a torrid time of it and never had time to even think about what had beeing happening and post about it.
I'll have a look now and see if I can answer the questions.

Not strictly honey, as Full and finals were lower on some debts and we got some charges and interest and PPI written off or refunded - but £97,600 was the number we started with on that fateful day in August 2006.
But even with all that we had to pay off more per month than a lot of people earn. Scary stuff huh?

I'm sure some new people would benefit from you reflecting that in your signature so they can see what can be done with sheer determination and hard work and taking control.
Well done you deserve it. Now I hope your OH gets a job he enjoys and life settles down to a future of much less stress and enjoying life :T0
