Hi Jacks
Well done on your debt free ness.
I am sure that it is weird having NOT to debt bust unless you want to stay frugal.. And in some ways it has to be tempered by the money that you OH isn't bringing in at the moment. Has he been made redundant from both jobs or does he still have his second job?
That is probably bringing down your elation. At this point you should have had £'s to spend on what you like each month, whereas now that extra isn't there.
On the other hand at least it has happened now. It could have been so much worse! And the lessens you have learned along the way will keep you in good standing now
best of luck. and well done to OH on doing some education

Congratulations. I am delighted to read your news.
The rate at which you tackled your debts is fantastic.:T :T :T That is real self discipline. The peace of mind that you will have whilst your husband is out of work because you are debt free, must be priceless.0 -
Congratulations, Jacks! *So* pleased to hear you're debt free - and pleased I found this thread as well! Its making me give serious thought to an offer on my loan (imagine a wistful tone here).
And I just want to agree with what people have said about your contributions. When I see that distinctive font and size you use, I *know* that the post will be positive, thoughtful and REAL - you're amazing.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Just read through this as I thought it was a new thread when I clicked on it - how have I not seen it all this time?!
Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS JACKS! I'm so happy for youxx

congratulations on becoming debt free Jacks, it's lovely when one of us makes it, it pushes the rest of us onwards to clear our own.
Hope your OH is able to get a job soon0 -

So is that spoiled cats getting even more prawns now!! Dottys dribble was a dribble of love...she;s purring happily next to me!
ok off to watch dvd that I finally found behind the recipe box...knew I left it somewhere! problem with tidying up!!
You tell Dotty that I was very happy to receive her dribble of love!there have been times during all this that only a dribbly cuddle with our pampered prawn loving moggie could keep me going!
Glad you found your dvd honeybun. You're not quite at the stage of putting your handbag in the fridge yet then? (I've done that!
)
We ARE in a much stronger position than we might have been, and for the first 6 months whilst we get all the insurances and job seekers, plus I'm still working and Hubby can still do his "odd jobs" and computer trouble shooting etc we'll be Ok.
We need to be prepared for the second six months when Jobseekers comes to an end and we won't qualify for anything else I shouldn't think.
Then after the first year is up all the insurances stop paying out - but we won't be entitled to much if anything in the way of benefits cos of what I earn. (although my main job is jeopardy right now so we may not have this problem! )
I think the main thing is that we have survived massive debts - and we'll survive this as well!
With the support of you lovely lot! :T :A :T

It's really good to see so many people making real attempts to get debt free. We have become a society of buy now pay laters! Listen to most 50+ people and they will say they don't believe in credit cards etc. If only we listened! We're hoping to be debt free by March 2010. Debt was approx £10,500.
We got two 0% visas one 16 months and one 14 months and transferred the higher rate visas to them and now we are just hammering cash at them (£150.00 pw). It will leave us a bit O/D each month but I figure that seeing the account go O/D will encourage us to spend less. My husband may lose his job in September which will put an end to the plan but if he doesn't we should for the first time in 15 years be debt free!
Good luck to everyone who is trying to do the same!
 Yay! Sounds like a plan! Keep at it honeybun! You'll get there. We used to do pretty much exactly that. Pay off more than we could really afford and then try to manage on what was left.
(Hark at me speaking in the past tense!)
Hmmm.... Hubby turned 50 this year. Maybe that''s why he's so sensible all of a sudden?!

I feel exactly the same, that myself and OH's wages haven't been our own for about 7 years. I am supporting OH through uni at the moment but am hoping that we can pay off our debts when he finishes and enjoy life without credit.
You are an inspiration.
Aww shucks honeybun You'll have me blushing!
I think you're marvellous to be supporting your OH while he studies. Just think: When he gets a fab job afterwards you'll be able to blast through the debts at a super fast rate.
Sssssssh! Don't tell anybody but I've just treated myself to some Yankee Candles on eBay - just because I can. As for the first time in a couple of years the money I made from selling stuff isn't earmarked for anything else!
Woooooooo!
