Blimey! What a blast from the past this thread is!
I may be a woman of many many talents, but keeping a diary is clearly not one of them.
Update: Debt wise we are *this close* to being debt free.
We have one remaining loan, and I am negotiating an early settlement figure at the moment. We still owe almost £16k on it, but can scrape together almost £10k out of Hubby's redundancy my "doing the house up" saving and this months wages.
The bank, however, don't want to go lower than £12.5k - but I've not given up yet.
Hubby is 50 and this country in a long term economic recession / depression so who knows when he'll be earning again? It's a tough age to retrain at. And nobody's hiring in his old field because it's linked to Retail and Banking and they're not doing too well in those fields right now.
If the bank turn down my offer we'll activate the PPI which pays the loan for 12 months
But there's another 4 years worth of payments after that which will probably be £1 a month token payments if we're on benefits by then. Hmmm... £48 instead of £13760.64. That won't be good for the bank's balance sheet will it???? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
The 5k's worth of PPI - which we didn't want, and were ineligible for in any case at the time the loan was agreed - was mis-sold and we'll be claiming it back so they might as well just deduct that amount now really.
So I'm sure when they think about it they'll agree that £9k is actually a very good offer and they should snap it up. Immediately, if not sooner!
I've given them until close of business on Friday to agree to my terms and if they don't I'll ring to activate the PPI, send in the claim for the clear cut case of PPI mis-selling and we won't pay another penny off that loan.

Cheers ISOM and Buffy! :T :T :T
And a specially big thank you to Elsas mamma :T :A for resurrecting this thread. I really enjoyed reading through it and seeing how thinsg were for us not that long ago.
I just hope we can get the bank to agree to take our money  cos being debt free whilst hubby is unemployed just means one less thing to worry about really.
And it means he can look at jobs paying less money or even make a career change to something completely different with less pressure to earn a certain amount each month in order to service debt.
Cos lets face it - our wages haven't been our own for the past two and a half years. We've been working like maniacs for the debt companies really.
It'll be nice to know that we're working for ourselves again now!
Bless you DFW board. We couldn't have done it without you!
Love Jacks xxx
PS ISOM I have a load of CDWM taped but i am horribly behind. You should so-o-o-o-op go on there hon. I bet it's great fun - as long as you're not on with a whole bunch of uber competitive types. I would love to do it but Um....I can't cook! (Which is a bit of a prerequisite really innit?)Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
Hi Jacks
So happy to read about your progress. You seem to have a great attitiude to the unfortunate redundancy and a career move maybe to a less stressful field could work out great for your OH.:j0 -
dunno jacks..one woman (compleatly mad she was!!) couldnt cook plus went to bed mid dp and had a snooze - leaving her guests to cook!! Bizarre!!! but great tv...dont think you necc need to be a fab cook - I'm not but just think 1000 if you won!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! I remember that sooo funny. Scored 9/40. I dont watch it much but that was the funniest week. I think a well planned/thoughout evening/meal rather than cooking expertise should work. DD1 keeps saying I should go on. I dont think my guests would appreiciate a cluttered house with spag bol the most adventurous course!:j0

SO glad your'e back!!
Without being too gushy, it is positive threads like this that keep me sane!!!!:rotfl: You know, light at the end of the tunnel and all that!;)
It does make sense that the bank accept your offer, I hope they see it too. We were getting on well with our loan company until a couple of weeks ago. They were very happy to accept a token payment each month (actually, quite a big 'token' payment! ), but now have def cooled towards us. We have always kept them informed right from when hubby was made redundant and for 6 months we were able to keep payments at normal rate. We seem to be getting alot of unpleasant phone calls from them - nothing particularly wrong with the calls, but not exactly right either. Does that make sense.
Keep us up to date with what they say.
