Been rumours of a Tesla Chinese price cut for a few months, and it has arrived. The TM3 now starts at about $38k / £34k, and the TMY at ~$41k / £37k. I appreciate that shipping and taxes are significant, but it would be nice if 'we' could get them cheaper too ..... as I assume that UK models will continue to come from China (not Berlin), since they supply  lots of RHD markets.

Not sure what the true story behind the price cut is. Tesla suggest costs have fallen, and the rumours started after the July and Aug line upgrades in China, when it was suggested / guessed, that there would be increased production, at lower unit costs. But also lots of rumours of demand slowing in China. Whatever the reason, I'm still jealous of those prices.

Tesla China cuts Model 3 and Model Y prices, base trims qualify for subsidies

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

Although I guess if it is just a cut so that the fall into a subsidy qualifying band and then no reason to expect similar internationally
    I think....

Quite a few things stood out (for me) in this China Sept sales article.

Firstly, the fact that China PEV sales accounted for half of the World sales.

Secondly, that they reached 25%+ BEV sales (22% for 2022 so far).

And lastly, that they bucked the global trend, with a greater increase (%age YoY) in PHEV sales than BEV sales. BEV's still account for 3/4 of the PEV sales, but China seems to be showing that large battery PHEV's (30kWh(ish)) have a sizeable market. [Bear in mind the top selling BEV in China this year, the Wuling Mini EV has 9kWh or 14kWh battery options.]

China Electric Car Sales — 35% Share Of Auto Sales In September!

Plugin vehicles continue to be all the rage in the Chinese auto market. They grew 78% year over year (YoY) in September. They scored over 636,000 registrations last month, a new record. Plugin hybrids (PHEVs) surged 148% year over year (YoY). They reached 161,000 registrations in September, which is their fourth fifth record month in row. It seems the Chinese version of PHEVs, with an average of 30+ kWh batteries and working more as EREVs, has struck a chord with buyers. As for BEVs, they grew a “paltry” 62% … to a record 475,000 units. In just one month.

Share-wise, with September’s record performance, plugin vehicles hit 35% market share. And the share could have gone higher, if the overall passenger car market hadn’t grown also — in this case, by 10% last month.

Toyota may be pivoting, but beware rumours for now. They look to be rethinking their planned EV's (of various types (BEV's, PHEV's, HEV's etc). Toyota could (and should) be an absolute powerhouse in BEV's if they start to turn the ship around now.

Exclusive: Toyota scrambles for EV reboot with eye on Tesla

Oct 24 (Reuters) - Toyota (7203.T) is considering a reboot of its electric-car strategy to better compete in a booming market it has been slow to enter, and has halted some work on existing EV projects, four people with knowledge of the still-developing plans said.

The proposals under review, if adopted, would amount to a dramatic shift for Toyota and rewrite the $38-billion EV rollout plan the Japanese automaker announced last year to better compete with the likes of Tesla

A working group within Toyota has been charged with outlining plans by early next year for improvements to its existing EV platform or for a new architecture, the four individuals said.

In the meantime, Toyota has suspended work on some of the 30 EV projects announced in December, which according to the sources and a document reviewed by Reuters include the Toyota Compact Cruiser crossover and the battery-electric Crown.

Being a firm believer that climate change is happening and having spent the last five years or so modifying our lives around doing as little further harm to the planet as we can we've made no secret of the matter amongst family & friends. In doing so simply hoping by example and gentle suggestion, we might encourage others to think about their futures too. This has been met with varying degrees of success, or lack of in the main. Sure we've cajoled close family members to sign up with Ripple but little else beyond, so it was with an element of surprise when a friend we'd not had contact with for several months arrived at an event in a two year old 40 kWh Leaf!
It transpired his previous high mileage ice was costing a fortune to maintain and run so he bit the bullet and went straight for an EV based solely upon our experiences of owning one. So no pressure there then!
Apparently the monthly fees for the four year contract were no more than his previous monthly spend on fuel. He's had it three months, completed 6k miles and loves it.
Given that he travels the length and breadth of the country playing at various functions and knowing what issues can present themselves when making the change I was delighted to learn of his positive experience. He's taken to Zapmap, sorting out where his stops need to be. While at home charging relies simply on the granny cable. Having now seen our Zappi charger he might have other thoughts.
Seems we made an impression on someone after all!

Pleased to hear that your evangelism is working!

Sorry to go off topic. Any chance you can get your cajoled family to vote for me for the board of Ripple? Voting is now delayed and is due to start next week.
