Yes, I've just purchased a used diesel car since used PHEV and BEV prices are still too high for my budget.(It's supposed to get 60mpg which, with diesel at 185p/litre, is about 14p/mile - so it's still cheaper to run than the Subaru I had until a couple of years ago [40k miles at 18p/mile; petrol at 120p/litre but only 30mpg will do that for you!].)N. Cheap as chips to buy, quite a decent profit from the sale of it (purchased for £1800-ish with no paperwork at all other than a V5/MoT, sold for £6k), but that was costing a minimum of 20p/mile before fuel prices went stupid.

Interesting BBC article on rapid charging costs rising rapidly. Our local council is not one that has installed roadside chargers and despite pushing is currently refusing to apply for the grants. The neighbouring council currently is tendering for additional EV charging units, so there will at least be some local facilities available, albeit a 3-4 mile drive away.💙💛 💔3 -
So, lots of news articles referring to 52% of buyers intend to by an EV (includes BEV,s PHEV's, and HEV's). Sounds good, but it seems a bit high (today) for me, and I notice the figures for Italy, in the last (interactive) graph are very high, but Italy is a little behind in the EV game.
So positive news, but perhaps somehow skewed (possibly by the HEV part), but certainly where I suspect we'll be in a few years, if not yet now, for PEV's.Why consumers are charging toward electric vehicles
The MCI survey — now expanded to encompass nearly 13,000 consumers across 18 countries — is a major global EY research program that has tracked consumer mobility patterns and buying intentions since the start of the pandemic in 2020. While overall levels of travel reported remain lower when compared to the pre-pandemic benchmark, the number of consumers who say constant access to a personal car is very important to them is rising, and for the first time more than half of those surveyed, 52%, who intend to buy a car say they intend to choose either a fully electric, plug-in hybrid or hybrid vehicle.

Here's a weird story. I get that BEV's should be safer and less likely to be in an accident, but not the implication that Porsche BEV's are worse, unless the Porsche numbers refer to ICEV's, and the article has misunderstood. Plus the article says Tesla drivers are 9% less likely to exceed the speed limit ....... ummm .... OK!
Perhaps for Tesla, one of the biggest benefits is the strong re-gen braking before your right foot can even get to the brake pedal. I'm still thrown by the weak (feeling) regen on the Hyundai v's the Tesla, even when on max. But I assume that a lot of that is down to the Tesla having a larger 'regen funnel' capable of applying much more regen simply due to it having a battery approx 3x larger? If that's the case, then more powerful regen and associated safety should apply to most BEV's going forward.
Tesla owners are 50% less likely to crash their EV than their other carsTesla owners who also drive another vehicle are 50% less likely to have an accident in their Tesla compared to in their other vehicles, according to an interesting new study looking at EV drivers who drive multiple vehicles.Interestingly, EV drivers are much less likely to crash in their EV than in their other vehicles, but there’s a big discrepancy between brands.
For example, the study found that Tesla owners are about 50% less likely to crash their EV than any other vehicle they operate while it’s the opposite for Porsche EV owners.

.............As batteries constitute a huge part of the environmental impact of EVs (particularly those like mine which cover low mileages) it makes sense that if you double the size of an EV battery you will significantly increase its emissions and that is what we are currently doing.4kWp (black/black) - Sofar Inverter - SSE(141°) - 30° pitch - North LincsInstalled June 2013 - PVGIS = 3400Sofar ME3000SP Inverter & 5 x Pylontech US2000B Plus & 3 x US2000C Batteries - 19.2kWh3 -
Good news, apparently range anxiety, and actual range problems are falling in the UK according to the AA. I wonder if that's due to expanding charger networks, larger BEV ranges, or growing driver experience, (probably a bit of everything)?
Anxiety The Problem, Not EV Range
A recent report from the United Kingdom highlights a maturing charging network and a reduction in range anxiety. The Automobile Association (AA) reports that the percentage of breakdown callouts for low battery has halved in the past 12 months. They have found that range anxiety does not match reality — half of the callouts were for anxious drivers who had not actually run out of range but from drivers panicked when their cars warned them that the battery was low. Having been I a similar situation in Queensland’s far west, I can understand the concern.
