  • Like u thorganby i have found EDF very unhelpful.
Ive been through c.a.b and EDF resolutions but got nowhere.
    Currently going through ombudsman

In home display unit showing 1856kwh used in 7 days which x52 would equate to 95,368 per year
According to ofgem a high user uses 17000kwh
    Are my workings correct ???

  • Just read through 'HUGE GAS BILL' thread from johnnyboy5. Case sounds very similar to mine so looks as like im going to have to pay for a meter test and hope ombudsman rules in my favour ...all hassle and expense i could do without at this time of year
Gas companies customer service is so poor !
    So much for privatisation

That's the point of privatisation- the buck is passed from an elected representative (as the monopoly is no longer publicly owned) to a call centre who are mainly unaccountable with procedures in place that thwart the customer

    On a similar note
Water in Scotland has been public for always (never been privatised) and it is accountable- we can contact our MSP if there is a problem

They have invested for years and do lots of stuff (flood prevention storm drains etc), compare to the south east of England where 40% of the untreated water can go in to the river.
    baldly going on...
  • So im making my evidence file for the ombudsman so far:

Explained i have video of meter rising 6m3 in 110mins with mains off. (Cant actually send them video online as 2gb file)

68m3 gas used last weekend but only 3m3 used this weekend when its been colder and heating has been set higher.

I included old bills showing we use on average less than 3m3 per day even in winter.

Shown my average yearly consumption is less than 800m3 per year (9 year old meter with reading of 7000m3 total 7000÷9=778m3 per year) but 'used' 400m3 in 40 days

Can anybody think of anything else i could do to help my case as obviously I have never had to do anything like this before !

Just an observation - 3 cu m per day in a cold winter seems very low to me - converting my Winter usage from last couple of years shows I've used 5.7cu m p.d on average, up to 8 cu m p.d on very cold days.
  • Saturday 550am reading 7033.9m3
    Sunday 907pm reading 7036.7m3
Maybe its under reading now , didnt move from 550am until around 11am
But 68m3 last weekend just not possible

Initiate a meter accuracy test. I dont know how much it costs these days.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • About £200 apparently for meter test. But my problem is still that it seems to be an intermittent fault so if they test it on a 'good' day thats another £200 down on top of the £500 i have already been overcharged

  • Update
EDF replied to my Ombudsman complaint and have changed my meter (via cadent who were great, even let me have an analogue meter which EDF said i couldnt)
They are going to moniter my usage over next 6 months and adjust my account if necessary.
My 'usage' has gone down from an average of 10m3 to 2m3 per day in past 3 days.
Just got to hope EDF are true to their word !

Thanks to all the people who helped on here with advice and helped me stay sane over these past stressful weeks
