  • Just asked EDF and they say the 'b' is not a battery problem. So i asked them what it was

"The B is the differet display screen. It is like on screem M and S you see the balance on the meter it is just a blank screen"

Is the January 2018 an actual or customer reading? Or is it an estimated reading?

Looking at the figures above your In-Home Display (if that's what your referring to) will show higher usage over summer because it will be linked to your meter and as your meter is showing higher usage over the summer months this will show on your In Home display (for example the readings you gave show your meter registered more gas between April 2019 and October 2019 than the period from December 2018 to April 2019).

FYI, if the reading on 16 January 2018 was 04906 and the reading on 16 November 2019 is 06738 then for this period your meter has registered 1832 metric units over 669 days which is a daily average of 2.74 metric units which is approximately 30 kWh per day.

FYI, I live in three bedroom house and I use approximately 30 kWh per day on average over a 12 month period and I consider myself to be a low user.

My view is that I think your meter is faulty due to a battery fault but this isn't causing you to be overcharged. However, it does need addressing by your supplier because your meter is malfunctioning to the point where it can cause a lot of problems for you. The readings cannot be trusted and will cause potential problems regarding your billing and direct debit reviews and transfers in the future along with price change readings.

In summary, there is definitely a problem with your meter and it definitely needs to be sorted by your energy supplier.

I would email EDF about this issue and raise a formal complaint explaining that there is a clear issue with your meter.
  • Thank you for your time, i too consider myself a low user but there are 4 of us in the house including 2 teens who seem to spend longer and longer in the shower  so some increase in usage is to be expected. In past years ive never payed an average of more than £75 pm direct debit for dual fuel , its now been put upto £122pm .
The January 2018 figure us 'actual'

Now to convince my energy company to actually do something !
I am currently awaiting a letter explaining that edf investigation could not determine any obvious fault and then i can 'escalate my complaint to an independent review'

Sounds like the wires are crossed, presumably you're referring to 'B' being displayed on the screen but he's referring to the physical Button B. Perhaps he's used to old phone boxes where pressing Button B refunded your money?

But if push comes to shove, perhaps the Ombudsman will press the right buttons to get any overcharging refunded. :)
  • It was an online chat , i will try again Tuesday and actually speak to someone to clear this matter up as it does sound the most logical.
Still not sure why May and August were my highest usage months , we werent even here for 1 of the weeks

Failing battery is temperature sensitive and the meter woke up? There was a heatwave at the end of August.
  • Lets be honest, there's of chat here but nothing actually happening.

Request an Ofgem Accuracy test from your supplier. They can not fob you off over this.
