Ooh, what a b*gg*r about the car

Seaxwyn, how about we have a day in 2008 when we bite the bullet and put our *real* debt figures in? That way, we can get it all out of the way in one go, then just move on and deal with it!

I will need to add in my overdrafts, and my secured loan, and I suppose an old loan to OH parents which we never count, none of which are included in my current signature. My £173k mortgage is interest only too.

Maybe it will signify a *maturing* within our dfw journey :rotfl:

Thats really terrible, you must be gutted about that. I reversed my car into a pole recently and caused a lot of damage-why do these things always happen when you can least cope with them?

On a lighter note, I know what you mean about getting obsessed with DFW. I recently had a couple of weeks off it and I realised that although I can do without it, the support makes everything much easier.

Talk about obsessed - I am only 2 posts away from 2,000. As each post represents at least ten minutes browsing, that's... er... 13.8 days spent on MSE!

Yes Hypno I am ready for a 'maturing'. Come new year, I want to make an appointment with a good IFA and get advice on all our financial issues: pensions (we have next to none), life insurance etc - and see the whole lot as one package rather than focussing on one small aspect.

Sorry BA to have hijacked your thread, especially at this extremely stressful moment! Where is OH and will he be able to get home?
    Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.62

  • Thread hijack welcome - makes me feel more inspired. Glad my thread made you feel you could join my horrendous figure. If I added my mortgage to the figure I think the whole site would collapse :D I was considering going interest free back in October but you lot made me realise I just needed to work harder at finding a better deal and so the mortgage is ok for a few years.

Maybe we should have a maturing diary for us all as we each 'fess up one by one :)

DH has rung to say they are coming to fix car windscreen in morning, and he is going to have a pint in the hotel. Seems completely oblivious to the fact that the car is in the hotel car park minus three windows - thank god he is not within punching distance  He also informed me (as if he was proud of working it out) that they must have realised he had a computer in the boot as his shirts were hanging up in the back of the car  quite what did he expect a pat on the back?!?!?! Fortunately (for him) he's not back for a few days.

The insurance should cover it all but we have had to switch the £75 excess straightaway. Dh is seriously thinking we will be getting him a new ipod once we have claimed if we are given the cash - hmmmm no!!

Have taken it all on the chin really, knew something else would happen - first car service bill, then heating and now this - comes in 3's so must be done for this year :)

But on a positive note if I had not posted on here tonight I would be so so so angry and upset now, and in actual fact I'm just a little miffed

    Thanks all! X
  • Hmmm just read posts more closely - my figure doesn't include overdraft either
  • Morning! Just spoke to insurance company and we have to pay £100 excess to recover the sat nav and the ipod  so this will have cost us a total of £175 if we decide to make a claim. Another figure to add to my ever increasing signature
  • Sorry about your car! Its nice to see you back though.

My unsecured debts are very low although I am on my own with a 152k interest only mortgage so I do know how you feel and no I dont earn as much as I should as I have had to have my mum on the mortgage to get it. I also owe my mum 5k and my brother 200pounds but I am having to pay off my 0% DFS loan to be able to get a remortgage before I sort out my OD and final cc. So I really get where you and the others are coming from. Yes I could sell up and be in profit but thats not going to happen as I need the security of a home.

I have no idea how hard and depressing it will be to even think of paying off 10k of my mortgage and hardly see the dent in that debt so I think I will be on here for a very very long time yet!

  • Can now look on the brighter side - checked Quidco and I have £180 being paid into my account in December :j This will help with the £75 windscreen excess. We have decided not to claim for satnav as it is only worth about £150 and we would have to pay £100 excess and lose our NCD on the insurance. They are sending us £100 for the ipod however as it is "personal effects" and no excess. So all is not lost.

DH is now on his way home with intact windows - which always helps :)

Another good thing is a no spend day today - it's been a while :j

    Hi Black Angel

I've finally found the thread that started the confessional! I've made the beginnings of a confession on my diary, but I'll put it here for the record: I have a euro mortgage with a French bank that I've completed ignored on here. Its repayment, 2 of 15 years have run their course. Rental payments on the property it funds are guaranteed for another 7 years, so I have time to sort everything else before I need to face doing anything there. The property doesn't fund all the French expenses tho, I still subsidise it from here. After a post on the MFW board, tho, I regard that property as what I did instead of moving to a bigger house. It'll work in the long run, and it'll make an appreciable contribution to my pension (about £100 a week, at current rates).
