I hope they didn't do the 'let's name the children after where they were conceived' thing :eek:Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
No prizes for guessing my first name :rotfl:
I don't mind my middle name which is a bit old fashioned and 'stuffy' but not embarrassing.
I have to spell my surname e v e r y time.0 -

Mine is Samantha, very 70s but I do love it, most call me Sammy, if I could choose I would be Maggie
I love all those namesMy son was going to be Martha if he had been a girl.
Some young friends have mine have a little girl called Matilda, which I think is a lovely name (but then they spoil it by calling her Tilly, which is, imho, very yummy mummy. Either that or a dog's name).(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
I don't like what I call 'shipping forecast' names like Shannon, Bailey and Fisher. Why not German Bight or North Utsira?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

My parents gave me two names then proceeded to call me, even as a baby by my second name so that is what is what I have always been known by.
Why on Earth they didn,t switch the names around when they registered my birth I have no idea except it was in the middle of the Wartime Blitz and the Battlemof Britain and they probably had other more important things on their minds.
However it has left me with a lifetime of confusion with officialdom, especially in the NHS who always insist on using my first name when they call me in for appointments and because I never use that name I always think they're calling somebody else who happens coincidentally to have the same surname as I do!0 -

My name's ok. Better than the name I was going to be called. I'm quite glad mum changed her mind once I was born.
The only person I knew who really hated their name was a man called Norman. He used to tell people to call him Dave!0 -

I'm confused when people use my first name, I have always been known by a shortening of it so not a different name but generally I only hear my full name if I am being called into a medical appointment or something like that. Only one person has regularly used my full name, don't know why but he always used my full name and I always called him James rather than Jim like everyone else did. He was a lovely man, sadly he was murdered, I remember James fondly.
My name is OK, it is the feminine of my father's name so that makes it a bit special for me but it certainly isn't a popular name now. Three of my GC are named after great grandparents so maybe my name will come back into fashion and there will be a little purplepixie running round in the future.0 -

How funny, I used to work with someone called Norman, well we thought he was called Norman until we met his wife and found out it wasn't his name, wasn't even his middle name. Never found out how or why he came to adopt Norman.0 -

The scubo nurses wanted Emma for the time of year born, but parents weren't having it. Along with Nan who told everyone I was going to be a Lucinda!
In the end, my parents went with a Scottish based name which in their mind could never be shortened.
I quite fancied calling my daughter Faye, then my husband said it reminded him of PAYE except it wasn't pay as you earn, I'll let you think of what he replaced pay with. He is a very bad man and ruined the name for me.0
