I have a flower name - everyone has heard of it, but there aren't many of us about. In my fifty years, I have known
* one girl a year older than me, who attended the same church when I was a child. I haven' seen her for about 35 years
* one girl who will now be 20 - she was in the same school as my older son
* one parent of a girl in my Rainbows unit
* one parent of a child on my Rainbows waiting list
* a cafe owner in the next town
There haven't been many people over the years with the same name, yet it is something that everyone has heard of. I don't like it, but everyone else tells me how pretty it is. Mind you, it's better than my siblings' names.
I've always liked the names Alison, Carla, Nina, and Olga.0 -
I love my first name and am fiercely proud of it. It's a Roman name which means Warrior/War-like, and is derived from Mars the Roman God of War.
I'll let you join the dots lol0 -
In my teens did go through a stage when I would always go for Faye (although bizzarly not my real name) with pen pals. I grew out of it soon enough!
The scubo nurses wanted Emma for the time of year born, but parents weren't having it. Along with Nan who told everyone I was going to be a Lucinda!
In the end, my parents went with a Scottish based name which in their mind could never be shortened.0 -
I hated my name when I was younger as I was the only one in my year. My middle name is very, very typical of the year I was born (most of the girls in my year either had the middle names Marie, Jane or Louise and mine is one of them) OH thinks it’s strange that I hate my middle name and won’t use it- he likes his middle name and uses it all the time!
I was named after a school friend of my sister. When I was born my parents hadn’t chosen a name for a girl, so my sister was allowed to name me. My devoutly Irish Catholic grandma said I had to have some form of a saints name somewhere in my name though so she picked my middle name. The common names in my year were Sarah, Claire, Julie and Katy/Katie. I’ve always loved the name Catherine, which oddly enough my mum wanted to call me but my nana vetoed it because of a black sheep auntie, hence why my parents didn’t have a girls name in mind*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
My name is horrible. Really horrible. A French name which is popular in Ireland (Ma is Irish) and there's a couple of famous actresses with this name.
I would have liked a 'proper' Irish name though, one which is spelt nothing like it sounds!0 -
I've always hated my full name, although as I get older, I'm sort of growing into it.....It would always be used when I was in trouble!0

Ive never really had any strong feelings about my name, neither dislike it nor love it. Its a relatively common standard name, I was named after my Dad's favourite cousin. she maybe would have been nearly 30 by the time I was born, so it wasn't a popular name in my birth year.
There was no one in my year (or the couple of years above and below) all the way through my school years. There were a large number of Holly's and Rosie's though.
My middle name is also a fairly common sounding name, but with a different spelling than usualMortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190 -
My name is very common among my generation, the shortened version - that I prefer - even more so (there of 5 of us in my smallish choir). I wasn't particularly fond of it when I was younger but have got used to it over the years. My middle name was given in honour of my father's favourite cousin. I loved her dearly but could have done without the name!
I hated my surname, was glad to change it to my mother's maiden name when my parents divorced. It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
'Wonder' - to feel curious.0 -
Yes, I do. It's Katrina. When I was younger I liked that no one else at school was called the same. There was a possibility I was going to be Olivia but I'm glad I wasn't as that name is now everywhere! My nickname has always been Trina and I like that too.Mortgage started 2015: £150,000 2016: £130,000 2017: £116,000 2018: £105,000 2019: £88,000 2020: £69,000 2021: £51,195 2023: MORTGAGE FREE!0

How funny to learn your real name; in my head, you're literally 'seven-day-weekend' and I think I had you down as a Janet. Absolutely no reason, I just did!!!
That's the strange thing about posting on here. I have many virtual friends that I've 'known' for years and always think of them by their pseudonym. There are a very few that I do know their real name (from PMs) but I still think of them as the pseudonym in my head. I've never done it but I wonder what it's like when people meet up with other posters in RL?
I like my first name. I only have the one and it's quite 'posh' and unusual for its era. My mother chose it because it balanced well with my very common (half of Wales is called by it:D) surname. That was fine until I married a man with a long, complicated surname. He's long gone but I still use the name. I've just got used to answering to all sorts of attempts to pronounce it and spelling it out before even being asked.0
