I suggest checking your readings are not estimated. I cannot stress this enough examine your bills dont just leave the direct debits going each month and assume all is hunky dory.

If the bills look accurate then I think there must be a way for to reduce your usage as £130 is an aweful lot of money to spend on electric/gas especially during august-october time.

    Thanks :)
We have had a card through the door for a reading....I am going to put a meter reading available for them and then i am going to ring them and ask how much (units) I have used in the last year and try and use those figures to switch getting a better deal. And yes its an awful lot!! :)

  • Anyone know how best to compare E10 tarriffs?? It seems the comparison sites will compare E7 but not E10.

    Thanks.

What are E7 and E10 if you don't mind me asking?

    Answering my own question:-

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1151827

Why not email the comparison sites in question and ask them why they don't support the other off peak tariff. But for now you will need to get the actual prices per unit and do your own calculations unfortunately.

Although have you tried https://www.energylinx.co.uk as they tend to be more reliable than the other sites at covering all the tariffs currently available.
  • I will have a look at the link you posted thanks.

Unfortunately it isn't as simple as looking at the prices per unit as the comparison sites don't show what E10 tarriffs are available. So I'd need to call all the energy providers and ask them whether they offer an E10 tarriff and take down all the details of any they offer that way - yikes!

I don't even fully understand E10 anyway, and I think we were put on the wrong sort of tarriff last time - grrrrr

Why can't it just be straight forward???
  • energy linx don't compare E10 tarriffs either.

All the comparison sites seem to want you to say yes or no to E7 you can't pick an option for E10.

I think non-geographical man might be on commision with energylinx or something, none of the comparison sites deal with E10 as there are only a few suppliers that deal with it and as far as I'm aware they in turn only deal with E10 in certain areas.

As far as I'm aware the companies that deal with E10 are SSE, E-on and Npower, EDF may also be an option but I did hear that they had stopped dealing with E10.

There are some E10 tariffs that tie you to the supplier, SSE do one called THTC (Total Heating Total Control) and to switch away from that will require a re-fit of your heating system as its all built into the meter (costly!)
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Presumably the Total Control lies with the supplier and not the customer in this situation?

I am not on commission for them but back in late September they were the only company correctly quoting EDF Energy Online v5's tariff for Electricity Only customers. Other suppliers were only quoting it for Dual Fuel as that is all it had been available on until some weeks earlier.

I wrote to Energylinx's CEO, Ken Geddes, to point out their apparent error and one of his assistants very confidently emailed me back (on a Sunday I should add) to tell me that they were correct and that it was other comparison website who were not up to date. He suggested I do a price comparison on EDF Energy's own website. I also copied in Uswitch and WhichSwitch on this email and the reply from Ken Geddes's assistant along with EnergyHelpLine. I got responses back at high level from both Uswitch and WhichSwitch telling me they would be adding EDF Energy Online v5 for electricity only comparisons as soon as possible. Energyhelpline never took any notice of my email and were still not quoting the tariff for electricity only customers weeks later.

I can only suggest emailing Energylinx's CEO to tell him of your concern that customers with your kind of electricity meter are not yet served by their website and perhaps they will give consideration to adding it. The same is probably also true of USwitch and Which Switch.

Here are some email addresses for people at these comparison websites who do seem to care about rectifying any deficiencies in their current comparison service. I am sure they would be interested to hear your comments about their current failure to cover this off peak energy tariff.

  • Thanks I'll try that, not sure how much joy I'll have though!

And Plushchris, I do know that we can switch, when we moved into the property we were with Powergen (probably the original supplier) and we switched to npower over a year ago.

Interestingly, our bills always say E7 on them and we thought that was what we were on, npower seem completely confused by the whole thing and have us on E7 rates and an E10 meter at the moment!

I'm struggling to get any reliable information about the tariff, which is frustrating as I am finding it difficult to compare the tariff or work out whether we would be better on E7.

Most of the Quidco one's now have a tie in period, to swap you switching - has anyone else noticed this?
