Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

I just signed up with First Utility (prompted by Martins regular email). I have been with Southern Elec for 4 years but shifting to First Utility has saved me £220 a year plus a full case of wine to boot. Keep up the great work! :T0

Interested to see the positive comments about First Utility. I have had a very negative experience trying to sign up with them. They told me my application was invalid because I had an economy 7 meter - we do not have such a meter. I was told to go back to my electricity supplier, Scottish Power, and get them to check the national database. They did, and found no record of economy 7. I went back to First Utility who refused flatly to investigate this further. Having had the door well and truly slammed in my face I'm back looking for another competitive dual fuel supplier!0

Its ECO20:20 standard prices but with 20% off unit rates in the evening and all weekend. If you are on a core tariff (which I doubt many people are who use this forum) then its a no brainer.
If you are not then you'll need to do the calculations yourself as it not on any comparison sites.
Its only worth while if you use a lot of energy in the evening and at the weekend.
Perhaps suitable for a working couple in an all electric 1960's flat? That's a bit of an old fashioned view point now. That [nuclear] "waste" is increasingly being seen as a resource that we just didn't know how to use before. Of course, if we refuse the grasp the opportunities that will never happen, and the waste already in the ground will remain there.
I have a nasty feeling there is a group of people out there who would know exactly what to do with it: Put it in a canister with a bit of high explosive and set it off in a square in the middle of a debauched evil rich heathen city?.0 -
Planning to switch to EDF online V5 asap, via energylynx (£34 cashback equates roughly to a month free!), i'm just a little confused by the IGT charges.
I'm in a relatively new hosue and I know I have and IGT as it was stated on my original bills from SP. In Martin's article on this is states about EDF's IGT charges varying from around £40-£70, but on their price index on the site for the V5 tariff, it states they charge 11.5p per day for this, which works out about £45 - just wondering if anybody has this tariff already via an IGT and could let me know what it costs.
Won't make much difference either way, it's still going to be about £100 cheaper on their tariff, and the IGT charge applies whoever I'm with.0 -
Hi, I recently did a search through Money supermarket and found that Scottish Power would be my cheapest provider. I then scoured the cashback websites for the best deal and TopCashBack were offering £90. (has since reduced to £60)
Well worth the switch and it's all gone smoothly. Approx £100py saving by switching and £90 CB.

One question: why is it deemed inappropriate to recommend UtilityWarehouse products on this site and fine to promote other companies' products. Plenty of these other companies often provide poor customer service so why should UtilityWarehouse be made a special case.
And I think it is quite clear that UtilityWarehouse are not included on most switch websites (neither are Ebico and probably lots of other smaller comanies). People should be made aware of this - they are not actually scouring the whole of the marketplace for best deals!
PS: before anyone bleats on about this, I have no connection to UtilityWarehouse whatsoever!0 -
Yesterday, a nice chap from Southern Electric called at the house and offered me a tarriff which he said was only being offered to certain customers in the Southern region and would be 2p cheaper per unit than Scottish Power, with whom I have just stayed but on their latest online tarriff. He also gave me a 'cheque' for £40 off my first bill.
I went along with the swicth because I have nothing to lose. I had him confirm that if their first bill is higher, then I could switch without penalty.
Has anyone else had the same experience?0 -

emmy uswitch and others.
I suggest checking your readings are not estimated. I cannot stress this enough examine your bills dont just leave the direct debits going each month and assume all is hunky dory.
If the bills look accurate then I think there must be a way for to reduce your usage as £130 is an aweful lot of money to spend on electric/gas especially during august-october time.0
