Ive had it all up to the hilt with energy companies!! I finally found refuge with the Utility Warehouse, I was introduced by a friend and after 6 months I have not looked back. I have checked my readings with them and pleasantly surprised. Not to mention the free calls I get and £100 cashback for loyalty after 12 months of paying my bills. One simple rate , gas, electric, phone, broadband all on one clear bill! Customer service? 15secs for a human to answer the phone ! All this without being tied in !! Hands Down every time.
What made me try it was the fact I had never heard of them and that meant no bad press!! I was ready for a change and its probably the best move Ive ever made to save money accross all my utilities.
You should stick to the UW thread, especially as you appear to be either making things up, or misunderstanding something - only new customers will get the £100 and as you've been a customer for 6 monhts, that doesn't include you. (Or so I've been led to believe)0 -
Have read this week Monesaving newsletter in which Martin advises those on capped tariffs ending soon to do a price comparison and switch to cheapest tariff. I'm on Scottish Power Fixed Price Energy 2009 which ended at the end of August 2009. Can I still switch though my capped tariff has ended and I have moved to a new tariff (don't know which tariff I've moved to, can't get thru to anyone at Scottish Power, prob because all those on tariffs ending today are calling in). Or does the tariff u are automatically switched to once ur tariff ends lock u in?0

If you'd rather go direct then please go ahead through the website. You can sign up (as I've double-checked this) should you decide to do so. However, the company doesn't and won't advertise and relies on business owners like us to spread the word. I didn't realise that having one's own utilities business was considered a "scam" nowadays.
Yet another UW Spammer !!!!!
Site rules clearly say
Dont post for personal gain.
By the way UW has its own specific energy thread.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=387161
and you shouldnt start more threads on them.
Perhaps you would like to join the fray.Best to read MSE original post before posting.0 -

From what he says and the way he says it i guess he does.0 -
If this is not the right place for this post as I'm not sure where the Referrers section is, I apologise in advance.
I will declare my interest up front - I am an agent for a utility company, which is one of my business areas. I am writing here so that everyone knows that they are not given all the information on these and other comparison sites with which to make a true comparison. Should I inadvertantly upset anyone then I sincerely apologise.
Everyone needs to be aware that there are alternatives - but only if that company pays money to be included - which is then passed on to you the customer - even though you believe you are getting a good deal. Our company is not included - as they will not pay to be included, in spite of attempts by comparison websites to get them to pay.
Absolute rubbish.
Your company is included in all of the comparison sites, the fact is the gas and electricity is so expensive they are so far down the list nobody sees them.
Also I think you'll find you CAN sign up to UW through one of the comparison sites (Energylinx I believe) and recieve cashback for doing so thats yet more rubbish for you to try and earn your commision from people reading this thread.
Obviously its in the interest of every UW distributer to slate comparison sites as they show UW for what they really are - EXPENSIVEMissing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Yes, of course you can switch, but first make sure you avoid paying exit fees.
They have probably 'automatically' opted you onto another annual capped package and most likely sent you an e-mail about this way back in August. If you stay on this package beyond a cut-off date they have made up (mine was October 14th), then you will be liable for exit fees, so demand that they change it NOW.
Note that switching supplier takes a ludicrous 5-8 weeks, so just doing this is probably not enough to avoid the exit fees - you also need to change the package prior to switching.
In my opinion they have created this confusing and malevolent situation deliberately, and deserve to get hammered for it - switching is supposed to be straightforward.
I managed to change my package by e-mail last week (onto 'Online Energy - Standard'). Here is a link for contacting them:

Good luck and let us know how you get on.0 -
Cupcakelady... I was on Scottish Power's 'Fixed Price Energy Online 2009' which expired on 31st August. They automatically 'opted me in' to their latest Capped tarriff, even though I had until 30th September to opt out. Since, they have launched 'Online Energy Saver 7', even though there is nothing on their website and they would not offer it (to me anyway) through the switching and cashback sites.
It is difficult contacting Scottish Power at the best of times, but I followed the 'opt out' link on their website (which says you are opting out to their standard direct debit tarriff) and followed it up with an emai to them at 'contactus@scottishpower.com' on Tuesday, not expecting to hear anything in the immediate future.
I was pleasantly surprised when I received this reply on Wednesday from a nice lady called Shruti Sharma in their e-contact centre. She even tried to call me beforehand ..."I have arranged for the package to be changed to Online Energy Savers 7 however the package will reflect on the account after 22nd October 2009 but the package will be backdated to the date you have requested for it (29th September)".
No mention of exit fees, which sounds very encouraging, but I have asked for written confirmation of the tarriff and terms of the switch.
The key is if you have been given a cut-off date for opting out of the Fixed Price Capped tarriff. I caught it by 2 days, thanks to MSE, otherwise I would not have known about the latest tarriff.
Good luck.0 -
The Energy Saver 7 tariff is clearly shown on Scottish Power's website:
http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/mediaassets/doc/Online%20Energy%20Saver%207.pdf
I hope the "nice lady" told you that it's not a fixed tariff and you'll be tied to that tariff until 30/11/2010 or pay cancellation charges. We may apply cancellation charges inclusive of VAT of £30 for electricity and £20 for
gas if you switch to Online Energy Saver 7 Offer but then cancel your supply contract
or switch to another tariff before the 30th November 2010. These charges will not be
applied if the supply contract is cancelled due to a home move.0 -
Tuggy... I must be missing something because I cannot see Online Energy Saver 7 "clearly" on Scottish Power's website. I even typed it in as a search, with no result. Indeed, I took their 'challenge' and was recommended to switch to Online Energy Saver 6. I've also just received an email from them recommending the same product. So, why not Online Energy Saver 7?0

You will get straight to the tariff if you click on the link in my post above, or you can get to the tariff by visiting Scottish Power's home page and then click on "view our prices". Online Energy Saver 7 is one of nine tariffs shown.0
