Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

  • That makes 14 weeks for the gas. Am I being unreasonable, or is that a stupid amount of time? Anyone else switched lately? How long did it take?

That is a quite outrageous amount of time. Even OFGEM's (the regulator's) pathetic minimum standards on the matter requires a transfer in no more than 8 weeks. EDF Energy transferred my mother's electricity only supply in just under four weeks from the date of order and six weeks is about typical in the industry.

So you should immediately complain to the supplier you are transferring from and/or the one you are transferring to (depending who appears to be holding the process up) as outlined at www.ofgem.gov.uk/Consumers/Pages/Consumer.aspx and seek compensation for any financial loss you have suffered due to paying the old higher tariff for more than 8 weeks after your switch order. If you don't get a satisfactory reply from either company in 8 weeks or offered any compensation (since the maximum period for a transfer has been exceeded) then you should take matters up with The Energy Ombudsman as detailed at www.energy-ombudsman.org.uk/links/3-31-complaining_to_the_ombudsman.php

If I switch tariff but not supplier eg. BG websaver 2 to BG Websaver 5 can i still benifit from cashback swithcing sites?

    In a word No.

But you can usually switch to another supplier and then switch back to your current supplier later and get cash back from both companies for the double move.;)

The only snag is any penalties you might pay your current supplier for leaving them before the end of a minimum term or the loss of any discount your current tariff that they only pay at the end of each whole calendar year with them as a customer. Also similarly any penalties you might have to pay for moving away from the other company you temporarily move to before the end of any minimum term (such penalties for leaving early are now much more commonplace).

thanks I had thought of that, I'm only tied in until 30th of December, so woulsdn't have to wait to long.

But changing to anouther competitor and changing back would take 2 months so would be better timed over the cheaper months.

Scottish Power are currently paying £110 cashback to join them on their dual fuel Online Energy v7 tariff through https://www.topcashback.co.uk but are only charging £55 to leave them before the end of the first 12 months with them.;)
  • Hi it's my 1st post!

    This new British Gas tariff...

Yes, it's the cheapest & have got the £30 cashback too, just so everyone knows you have to wait a while for it..it's all in the small print! Sure it will come though eventually..let you all know when it does.
  • Hi
Not sure I'm on the right thread? but has any one know anything, good or bad about Utility warehouse? I have been told by a friend to switch to them.
    Thanks Roger

    Thanks Roger

Your so called friend will almost certainly be a sales agent of Utility Warehouse who earns commission if he signs you up. Such people are much more concerned with the welfare of their own pockets than with that of their friend.

Utility Warehouse almost never come anywhere near the top as being a low cost energy supplier if you do the normal price comparisons at https://www.uswitch.com, https://www.energylinx.co.uk and https://www.whichswitch.co.uk

This is presumably because of the extra costs they must incur in having to pay their sales agents so much commission in order to lure in new customers under false pretences.:mad:
  • I used thepowerswitch.com to change our electric and gas for our small business and got £50 cashback and was quick and easy, they apparently pay up to £270 cash back but I think it's only for businesses.
  • Hi,

I am considering changing my dual fuel from EON to the new British Gas Websaver 5 tariff and was wondering if I went through Topcashback to somewhere like money supermarket, would I get the £20-30 cashback from topcashback and then another £30 cashback from money supermarket?

Not sure how this works?!

    Thanks

  • Is it me or do all the Quidco ones now have a tie in penalty if you switch??
